Guages, electrical or mechanical?

I have found the guages I want but the only fp guage they make is electrical. I was under the impression that mechanical was better but I am not really sure now so any info/advise would be great. I am looking at the autometer cobalt series if anyone has any input on them. If I dont get those I will get the isspro evs. Also the cobalt fp guage is 100psi, is this a problem? When I finally get around to gettin a fass how high should my psi be? Thanks for any help.

I went with the ISSPRO and love it. matches the factory gauges. my FP/Boost are mechanical and my tranny temp is electrical and all 3 work just fine. Having a 100PSI FP gauge is a little overdoing it. FP doesnt go above 16PSI with a stock and with the fass I dont think it goes much more then that. I would just stick with the 30PSI gauge.

Any comments on fp mech or elec. I have a buddy who drives an 02 who has a chip that came on the truck when he bought it and he has no idea what kind or how much hp it runs cause the sticker is gone. It most definitely looks like an edge. but I digress, he has had the truck almost two years and never put guages on it now I have finally talked him into it cause he found some for realatively cheap. anyway when we were talking about it my buddy who thinks he can race his rice rocket car tried to tell us we couldn't run a mech gauge cause something might happen and the fuel press. could blow the guage off and what not then start fire blah blah blah. I just looked at him like he was stupid but this was just a chance to get an opinion from someone "in the know". Figured if anyone has had this happen they would be on here.

You can run a Fuel pressure mech gauge into your cab but its not recommended. I think almost everyone uses a isolator. The isolator mounts under the hood somewhere (your preferance). From the isolator to the gauge is filled with 50/50 antifreeze. This is mainly for safety reasons. But yes we can run mech fuel gauges on diesels. My fuel pressure doesnt hardly see pass 16PSI while my Boost has been up to 30/31 using the same type of line and brass fittings.

Which is really better cant say for sure. Probably six of one, half dozen of the other. That being said I run the SPA gauges which are electrical. They have been on the truck 165k and are still working fine.
As far as mech fuel pressure and running diesel into the cab. I personally think I would run an isolator but diesel is not nearly as flammable as gas so running diesel into the cab is not a real fire hazard imo. However a leaking one could present a nice smell and oily residue where you really dont want it were it to malfunction.

I have Autometer Ultra-Lites, a combination of electrical and mechanical. Mine are the best for my needs. Electric Fuel Pressure seems the simplest and safest to me.

Autometer Ultra-Lite Pyro 0-1600* (4343/44) Electric
Autometer Ultra-Lite Boost 0-60psi (4305) Mechanical
Autometer Ultra-Lite Trans Temp 140-280* (4441) Mechanical
Autometer Ultra-Lite Fuel Pressure 0-30psi (4360) Electric
