Have you thought about the Reunel towing rear bumper?
I was hit by a larger vehicle and took most of the impact in the hitch. It bent down 10 degrees or so and there was minor damage to the bumper. I think the Reunel looks pretty good and would not leave a hitch bar hanging down. The 20K rating and 6K tongue weight seem pretty good as well.
Anyone install this product?

When are cars going to learn they can"t play ruff with trucks???????? Funny how often this happens!!! Some 16 year old texting while driving didn't see me and did the same thing!! Had a 8" drop hitch in at the time, that was the only thing she really hit. I wish I had pictures, funny thing the cops almost gave me a ticket for a 3 day expiered insurance card. Luckily the wifey was off work and stopped to show them!!
Them dang txters!!!! that was probably the case with the op being rearended. Nothing like giving them a good loud blast with a k5.... I was with my gf a while back and she drives a 09 corolla. We were on I35 going south from Denton and some idiot rearended us and drove off instantly but we couldnt chase him down cause he had pushed us into the car in front of us. Arrrrrgh!!
