I have a SERIOUS case of tire envy! I'm hoping to go 35 on my truck-- well, actually a 315/75/16 (34" and some change )

Why did'nt you up-size to a 18" ?

I know you like the desert and such and that extra inch seems to help out in tire flex.

There's seems to be more tires size options in 18's, no to mebtion I think they look better but if 17's are your style that's

I've never had 17's but 315's on 16" sure handled like crap compared to my 35's on 18's.

Yeah I know racers use 17" baja's TA's

If they threw in a free set of wheels to go with them I would have. Until that happens I'll stick to the 17s.

Don't want to thread jack Pauly, but I noticed you bought a spare, will that fit under the bed like a normal spare? I am leaning towards 315 BFG A/Ts and would like to get a spare as well...

No worries about thread jacking.

It won't fit under my truck because of other things I have done (shock reservoir mounts, future air tank and air horns), but it may fit under a stock truck, but it will definitely be close to the exhaust. The 315s, on the other hand, are supposed to fit fine.

A all most bald 35 inch pro comp mt barely fit between the frame rails and the crossmembers. I don't thinnk a brand new 35 would fit with all the extra tread. Nice tires, so you going with a tiregate or a bed mounted spare?

Yeah, something along those lines, just not sure what yet. The Tire Gate doesn't look like it will hold up to me so I'm hesitant to buy one. I'm going to make a trip down to a fab guy near me and see what he can do. I fear the price will be prohibitive, however.

Thanks Pauly, I knew you would have an answer for me when it comes to suspension/tire questions. I thought I would be able to fit the BFG since it is not a true 35" tire.

Definetly get a custom one made.

Since you live in so-cal I bet there's alot of off road fab shops and even weekend fab guy's. Search around from word of mouth or shops.

Dont waste your time with the old slow fella's that work on other old but rich guys jeep's. They will usually charge you alot for basic welding skills and basic design.

It shouldnt be that hard to fab its just gonna time.

Most of my rockcrawlin friends do side jobs and rear bumper tire carriers are a very common weekend job.

You will need to get the big hinge thingy that greesable. I think they run $40 from a jeep shop.

Remember you have a $45K truck, dont get a crappy tire carrier get something that will last and looks right at home on your truck. Your gonna want something that's going to make getting in and out of the bed easy.

Maybe something with dimple dies and an incorperated bumper.

Goodluck
