The shackle is needed with the longer leaf springs. The factory shackle is too short and would lay back almost parallel with the ground with Don's pack. The longer shackle retains factory angles and allows the longer springs to cycle through a full range of motion without binding.

Is that just with Don's full replacement leaves, or is that typical of the other guys too?
Have you measured the rear to see if it stayed the same/came up any?

Just with Don's 'cause he uses a longer than factory spring pack, eye to eye. The others on the market are direct bolt ups.

The rear actually came down a bit. Best guess is about 1".

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the main benefit is the longer spring flexes better. The trick setup with leaf springs is a spring under setup, where a really long set of leaves is stacked under the axle.
