Got bored, built a winch mount in the bed...
After getting my new atv ramp(that still ended up being too short @94" long), and having fun making a few attempts at shooting up the ramp(and almost having it flip backwards), I decided to fab up a little winch in the bed to pull the ATV up in there. It will also come in handy if I need to haul the In-Laws Grizzly or Artic Cat, or my old mans lawn mower.
I bought a hand crank unit, but after doing some planing it would have needed to be 10" further out, and 10" taller to clear the crank handle.
So for $20 more than the manual winch, I got this electric winch for $70.
Fabbed up mounts using the stock tie down spots, and a crossbar, and bingo.
2" (3/16") angle, 2"(3x16") box tubing, and some 16guage to cap off the ends(so it wont rust inside from moisture).
Ill get a shot of it in action this weekend...
PS, yes stacks are out for now, and probably for a while, so yes, I will be patching back up the hole in the bed

Thanks!
Actually, they may stay out for a while, had some bad headaches from working out in the heat lately and the ride home on the freeway afterwards isnt fun!
Its kind of scary how quiet the 5" straight pipe is compared to the stacks(Inside the truck anyway)

Before its just been a dry heat, which is usually tolerable in small doses, but the humidity is making it HORRID
The best thing you can do is get up early and TRY to get your stuff done before it gets too hot

That ain't all it's missing!! He needs his Ranch Hand put back on too!
Stacked....>Nice mount......nice work. But question.... Why not just put a winch on the ATV....and use it to pull itself up onto the truck? Then you have it while out playing too.

Did you think about mounting the winch UNDER the bed? You already have a hole for the cable, and you appear to have the smarts to fabricate some sort of roller system.....and for $70, who cares how long it lasts under the bed. I'd have to crawls under my truck....but if you had room for a stack there (almost in the same spot), I would think there is enough room to fabricate/mount some sort of crossmember (as you did), possibly some sort of enclosure.....and put the whole thing underneath.
You got ME thinking.....so I was wondering if the idea ever crossed your mind, and more importantly...if it did....why did you rule it out.

I guess the only saving grace is its removable in a minute or two, and the winch itself comes off in less than a second.
The only real problem I see with mounting the roller to the bed sheetmetal is bracing it, youd need some sort of frame around, or have it as part of the other winch mounting to keep it from distorting the bed sheetmetal when force hits the rollers...
Now im thinking about wiring, it comes with the clamps(like jumper cables) to hook up to your battery, but I want something a little more permanent, that is still detachable(but safe). My initial thought was to just run a wire from the battery, have an inline 20amp fuse, and just have a harness in the bed that plugs into the winch. Another idea was to tap into the trailer harness for 12v power, but that might be more of a hassle then the battery/fuse idea.
Anyone have any ideas? My main concern is not having a live hot in the bed, and I dont want to have to remove the fuse to kill the power.(Not too keen on a toggle switch either, since I dont want to mount it in the cab anywhere)
