Good Drop Ins
As I near the first air filter change on my 600, I am pondering over whether or not to try one of the "performance" drop ins. Don't want to go intake route yet due to
A) Outrageous cost for what you get
B) Possible warranty issues that might arise with an intake on.
Are there any drop ins for 600s that flow signicantly more air, dont need to be cleaned and reoiled every 5000 miles, and don't let dirt in? Seems like there have been some problems with AFE recently in that regard in the dirt vs. oil category. I already have removed and replaced the silencer tube on the intake with 5" exhaust pipe (It clamped down tight, dont worry) but that goes back to stock very easily if it needs to go to dealer. The air cleaner box does not quite so easily. Does Amsoil have a foamer for the 600 out yet? Are they good?
Thanks,
Matt

I was looking at the Airaid system over the weekend at Hot August Night in Reno , they have a drop in and tube replacement that looks pretty good and well made. they sell it as a kit on the website for the 600 ,

AirRaid drop-in
I switched out the factory drop-in at about 1200 miles. I now have about 2600 miles and I really like the Airaid filter. Doesn't really seem to pull down the filter minder too much and the finger test in the intake tube comes up pretty clean. I saw a demo tape at a local 4x4 parts shop comparing a K&N with the AirRaid. One comparison involved holding up the filter to a light and looking through - the AirRaid is definitely denser and the thing just feels/looks better built. Have heard/read better things about AirRaid than K&N, and I like mine a lot so far... just my $.02! (Also, when I e-mailed K&N tech support, they told me they have not made drop-in to fit the Cummins 600 yet....)
By the way, "seat of the pants" tells me it spools a little quicker and pulls a little harder since the AirRaid went in! I can hear the air rush sound a little better, too!

You can definatly hear the Airaid, I'm not sure about the seat of the pants thing myself. I think it is better built than my old K&N from the Chevy. Just my .02 worth...

AFE Proguard 7 passes my finger dust test and engine spools up faster. Couldn't tell much difference in mileage though. Doesn't pull down the filter minder at all though?
