Getting a 06, need advice.

I'm working out the paperwork to get myself a 06 2500, 6 speed, 4x4, Mega cab, short bed. I'll be making a 50 mile drive each way to work. My question is what can I do to this truck to get the best mileage out of it? I know that a good intake, and exhaust will make it breath easier. But what else can I do? A programmer? Different Turbo? Better clutch? I'm sure a programmer but I've never tinkered with em. Any advice there? Thanks for all your words of wisdom in advance.

Congrats on the new rig, How many miles? I have an 06 Mega and I am running a Smarty jr with a Workhorse intake, my exhaust has been replaced due to the mufler rusting through. I can get 19mph all day. I have a 3disc and a V/B by Goerand also.

Just a fyi I am on my 3 rd set of balljoints, my tranny was junk at 48k. The r/r quarter rusted through at 4 years. Both my front hubs have been replaced and I am just at 90k.I have had several other issues with the truck, not the motor.

Give it a good going over before you buy.

When you get it, change ALL the fluids with Cummins / Dodge specified fluids. Install a boost gauge and NEVER exceed 6 psi of boost. Use a fuel additive for lubrication of the cp3 pump, injectors and to boost certain level. Use the Mopar fuel filter or Fleetguard fuel filter. When you do the math, all the tuners and add-ons don't pay back for over 150,000 mi.

i disagree with 07 the 06 has in-cylinder egr do the following to remove most of it and gain about 6 mpg. we have a fleet of 06's and for us the payback is one year. change the cam to a pdr or colt stage 2, change the nozzles to ddp 50 hp get a smarty jr set it on sw1 tq4 tm4 the 06 had a dual mass flywheel that would not last past 75,000 miles. some of ours failed in the 30,000 miles range. if it still has the dmf change it to a southbend conofe get one gallon of synthetic syncromesh sae50 transmission fluid and mix it with one gallon of 5w-30 synthetic syncromesh transmission fluid. the g56 holds 6 quarts to full it needs one quart over full to lube and cool the front bearing. this gives you one quart left over to use as make up oil for when the red seal on top around the shifter splits. use the sae50 in the 271 transfer case. if it still has the dmf you will most likely need to replace the front seal on the g56. every one i have seen the dmf had it weaping
