"The 325 engine only lets you have more power when the fan and acessories are on. There will never be more than 560ft lbs to the torque converter and the 305 engine will get better fuel economy due to the advanced injection timing."

Can you tell me more about this ? What do you mean by "only lets you have more power when the fan and acessories are on." What does it put out when the fan is off ? Which accessories ? Are you sure about this ?

How does the stock power output of a 305/555 compare to a 325/600 on a dyno ?

BTW: I'm putting in an engine from a manual truck.

My vote would be a 305/555 also, I think you have the injector issues backwards on the model years... I think there is much less injector issues on the 03/04 305/555 models then there is on the 04.5+ 325/600-610 engine...

Beside that, the electronics on the 305/555 is alot more basic then the newer version... Also a simple $350.00 pressure box will easily bump you WAY beyond the 325/610 of the 04.5+ engines.

I heard that you have to put on a small body lift to get the clearance needed but that is about all I know...

Good luck and keep us up on your progress (sounds like a great plan if you have the time)...

Yeah, that's the first time I've heard anything like that. Can you elaborate on this?

the injector issues was with the first year 03 common rail , not the 600 and later.

I think the 04.5+ are more sensitive to injector issues because they have more shots, but I think the early issues of cracked and leaking injectors is solved with the 05 engines. I haven't checked part numbers yet, but I've heard the 05 injectors are different than the 03.5s.

A lot of people say good things about the 03.5HO. I think I'm going for an 05 though.

The injectors are different due to the spray angles being matched to the piston bowl shape for cleaner combustion. Otherwise they are the same.

I think you are underestimating the electrical/software side of things involved with this conversion, but I'm a mechanical guy.

If he uses a commercial engine and ECM it is two or three wires to make it run and a few more if he uses electronic gages. The software issues are all self contained within the engine package. The engine comes with the wiring harness, ECM and all sensors wired and a plug to connect the necessary feed wires.

We'll know in a few weeks ! The electrical/software certainly isn't trivial.

I have a short box. That was the SWB part of it...

"If you have a CC and long box, your truck is longer than my dually."

It is a a short box. And your point is ?

Because of the high lighted part of your comment below. Just making a quick comparison to your current trucks length. Seemed that is one reason you didn't want to go there. Wouldn't be much different. Whether you want to do the swap, as opposed to sticking out for the Mega-cab, is fine with me. I like the SD trucks, too.

I talked to a dealer about the mega cab and they are going to be scarce for a while. Furthermore, I am not happy that the wheel base is so long on those mega cabs, for only a 6.5' box.
I don't how skilled you are turning wrenches, or even if you like too. Thought it may save some aggrivation, if you aren't, and may or may not save any money at all, to have someone else do the work.

Just trying to be helpful.

Sheesh.

If you do, do it, it'll be a sweet ride.
