Gauges - what is your fav. ?
Just upgraded from a mod. 1993 to new. I ran Isspro's on the 1993 and was very happy. Wondering what the thoughts are for the new truck;
1. Brand preference
2. Choice location

I would be happy with any gauges that work and are installed. Working on that.
I ordered Autometer Lunar 2 1/16 Series EGT, Boost and Trans Temp. Then found out the Boost is only 0-35 PSI. Have had many different posts that CTD HO 600 stock will boost over 40 PSI and that I should get 60 PSI gauge. Lunar does not come with one. So I changed to Autometer Ultra-Lites, which has a 2 1/16 60 PSI boost.
As for mounting I am going to use the Autometer 3 gauge console pod. It is easy and no modifications to dash here is link.

I also order a fuel pressure gauge, will mount it in a one gauge steering column pod.
I need my grab handle on the A-Pillar. Short and old.

i have the autometer ultralites on my truck. i love how they look in the day, and the lighting on them at night isn't the greatest, but not too bad...

I've had the ultralites, digitals, and now ISSPRO. I like the ISSPRO's the best. The autometer boost gauge I had kept sticking on me. The digitals died about 4 different times (senders quit working). I finally went pure mechancial with the ISSPRO's and I love them. Very fast reacting and I don't have to worry about a stupid sender dying on me.

I had very specific requirements:

EGT and boost had to be viewable at the same time and easily visible while driving
no after market modification to the stock A pillar
must retain the grab handle
must be able to return the truck to stock condition.
there is only one way to meet all of these requirements: Buy the SRT-10 pillar and put in a dual gauge.
And there are only two dual gauges: Westach and SPA. The analog meters do have their advantages, and I like the Westach, but I ended up getting the SPA for these reasons:

And there are only two dual gauges: Westach and SPA. The analog meters do have their advantages, and I like the Westach, but I ended up getting the SPA for these reasons:
- their EGT thermocouple was ranked fastest and most accurate in a TDR article of 3 years or so ago.
- records both max and minimums
- includes driver circuits for external alarms
- warning LEDs when programmable limits are exceeded.
- $100 for another sender and you have a total of $500 invested in EGT, boost, and fuel pressure. All you do is hook up the boost side of the gauge to the pressure sender and voila you have fuel pressure. On the third gens you don't need to continuously monitor fuel pressure (spot checks are good). all in all, thats cheeper than an X-monitor with fuel pressure.
- it all fits into a standard 2" round mount on the factory SRT-10 pillar. no extra box to screw into your pillar.
- You can get extra temp sensors and switch them into the EGT side of the gauge and measure whatever you want. the gauge will even accomodate non-SPA senders -- you just program the SPA to accomodate.

The X-Monitor gets my vote. I have been happy with mine. All of my friends with mechanicals love it and wish they had gone the X-Monitor route. It's coolest feature is the automatic recording of the highest values. If you just happen to get on it but didn't get a chance to look at your gauges, just push a few buttons and it will tell you what your EGT, boost, etc., reached during that run. Comes in really handy. Of course it has the standard alarms for each item monitored, you can turn the brightness up or down, you can turn it off if you want, and now can be had with a built in cool down timer that runs off of your EGT reading. They are spendy though.
