Gauge readings Accuracy?
Hi everyone,
I have had my Boost, Trans temp, and EGT (Post Turbo) installed for several weeks now. I just returned from my first camping trip with my 10,000 pound 5th wheel since installing the gauges and here is what I found. I was wondering if anyone is getting the same readings. The gauges are an Autometer set.
1) Boost seem to be normal running 3 at idle topping out at 35 psi.
2) Trans temp: The proble is installed in the (massdiesel) line between the trans and the cooler (48RE). The gauge stays very close to 100 degrees all of the time on the flat highway. When climbing a mountain it might rise to 110 or 120 degrees. When excellerating hard in traffic with the camper on it will briefly rise to 130 - 150 degree point and quickly come back down. The only way to get it to rise higher is to put on the emergancy brake and let it idle in Park. I have gotten it over 160 doing this.
3) EGT: Is installed in the Brake elbow, post turbo. The temrature varies as expected but it will hit and hold at 1,000 degrees on the long climbs over some of the mountain ranges. It quickly cools when the load decreases.
I believe my trans gauge is working ok but it sure seems like the temps are a bit lower than I am hearing on this forum. I also have some concern about holding the throttle down and maintaining the 1,000 degree EGT readings. If correct I would be at 1,300 degrees with 10 degreeas of temp for each pound of boost. (1,000 + 10 X 30 = 1,300).
Should I have any concerns?
