G56 failure help!!!!!!
#46
This thread is crazy.
A G56 is the way to go, the NV5600 is a pretty penny to rebuild now, and will be more $ to rebuild later.
The G56 is plenty strong, just rebuild it, you already have the clutch. You could have Peter rebuild the clutch while you have the trans down.
A built auto and a built manual tranny are about the same price IF you are going to swap. e.g. remove auto trans and install manual trans ~$5k or remove manual trans and install built trans ~$5k... so, to swap to save money is a wash,, a moot point unless you find somebody with a good deal...
As far as 40" tires and going fast... it's possible, but not cheap. I did it on 36"x14 tires, but it was not cheap, *I* couldn't keep up with the repair bill.
However, my dually is over 500HP and tows a 19k trailer everyday, so it's fast, and tows heavy everyday. That's very expensive also. When it breaks, you can't whine about it.
UnrulyNFS, good luck on getting that truck up and running again. There's not much you can do to get these trans to hold up in the long run when you are that far over factory power. I feel your pain. You just have to live with short component life with some items.
