I was reading the instructions and it says you have to drop your fuel tank and drill a hole in the top to mount the bulkhead fitting. Is this true?

All this talk about dropping the tank has created a question, are you guy's using a lift or is this something you can do in your drive way?

That's exactly what I did. I just put an empty peanut canister under where I drilled the hole to get all the shavings. It was a pretty easy job. The hardest part is getting the tank back up there but even that's not too bad. The connectors everyone complains about were pretty easy as long as you make sure they're lined up correctly.

As long as it's empty (or mostly empty) it's not hard. It's only plastic so it's not that heavy. It's just kind of awkward holding it up there while trying to get the straps put back on.

I didn't have a lift and came up with an extra set of hands. I used my tie down straps that have the ratchet feature. Lopped the tank and then looped up on the frame. Ratched it up, while it was being held, I was able to throw the straps back on. Thought I'd mention that, it worked great.

I was a part of doing 5 of these at a bomb party in february. One thing to watch out for is do you have enough room to get the tank out from under the truck. One of the trucks was a 3500 dually with running boards and we had to jack up the rearend to make room to get the tank out from under the truck. We pulled the other low trucks up on ramps after that, no biggie just easier to carry the ramps than drag a floor jack around 5 acres to the different trucks.

When you pull the sending unit there is about a 5" hole in the top of the tank to get a margrine container etc inside the tank to catch the shavings.

Using the ratchet straps sounds like a good way for 1 guy to do it himself.

Thanks for everyone's comments. I have been on vacation for the part week up in Breckenridge. The package for the vent kit was here when I got home today. Looks like in the drive way we go. Thanks again.

Don't forget to stick the hoses on the barbed fittings on top of the tank to avoid water entering the tank. I did mine a couple of months ago but it is really easy to do while the tank is down. And those fittings ARE open as I was able to blow air into at least the front one.
