Front axle input shaft seal leak

Just did an oil change at 15K and noticed a leak from the front axle input shaft. It would be a warranty item but before I can bring it in I need to strip off the Juice and Attitude. Then when it is fixed I will have to put it all back on again.

Would you think the hassle of fixing the seal leak yourself is more or less then pulling the Juice and Attitude off and putting it on??

Mine is seeping a little bit also, and I have read about a few others with the same problem.

I would keep an eye on it and see if it seats itself after a few hundred miles.

Also make sure that you redirect the crankcase blowby tube so it doesn't blow directly above the pinion seal. This could be the seepage that you are seeing.

I hate taking it to the dealer also, so I would do it myself or get a qoute from a local mechanic to replace it.

X2 for me. Anything special required or anything that was a real PITA??

Jim Dynomite - I saw the breather tube and it had a drop of BLACK oil on it but the oil on the axle is clear. Any suggestions on were to route the breather tube?

I was lucky with mine. I had a clunking, rear driveshaft u-joint at 35K. The dealer called me up to let me know the front pinion was leaking and if I wanted them to change it. I told them sure. When I went to pick up the truck they told me it was +$300. Nooo, the truck is under warranty. They 'did some checking', then it was covered. Good luck.
I noticed the blow-by, too. My XJ Cherokee had problems with that, I had to change out the whole tube arrangement. Fixed it though.

You don't really have to, I meant it as a way to isolate the problem, but since you said it was clear oil it defitnitely isn't blow-by oil, which we all know is horribly black.
