Free spin hubs

I have been moving a couple trailers on a steep hill (again). Who else is making these besides Dynatrac? I looked up Dynatrac and they were close to $2000.

I know my sense of prices is stuck in the 80's, but that is pricey.

It is pricey but very nice quality. And you might as well plan on $3000. because, while you're in there, the axle U joints and ball joints need replacement too. That's assuming you do the work yourself.

Kinda shocking when you look back at '80's pricing.

raspy- is correct. when i installed my dyna tracs- i went ahead and redid my whole entire front end- since everything was apart. new brakes, axle u-joints, upper and lower ball joints, tie rods, steering brace, trac bar, steering stabilizer, sway bar bushings, etc.

I put the EMS kit on my rig this last winter. It was a lot of work and I did it myself for just under $2k. It has been the best mod to my truck yet!

Not sure if anything changed in regard to the DynaTrac or EMS. I purchased the SolidAxle kit and have been very happy with it. I only have 3/4 of a tank since having the kit installed.

Do the Dynatrac and EMS Hubs come complety assembled? SolidAxle kits have the hub completly assembled so there is no need for spanner wrenches or pressing bearings in.. etc.. They also came with the front axle u-joint already attached the the 35 spline stub shaft. That was part of my reason of using the Solid Axle kit. It did not work out for me as I could not get the stock hubs out and needed to use a local shop for my install. I to did everything else up fron at the same time as it just made sense.
4-Ball joints, All Tie rod ends, I held off on the brakes as I had done pads a little while ago and am planning to replace rotors and calipers with EGR brakes in the future.
Looks like the hubs will be worth some MPG even in the partial tank I am seeing additonal miles on this tank. We will see over time how the MPG does. I wanted them more because it just makes sense as I plan on having the truck until it turns into dust. Paid it off last week.. so this is when the trouble usually starts..

Good Luck with your choice..

Do you guys get back what the kit costs in fuel savings? Or what is the reasoning here? Thanks

1.25 mpg gain with 50-50 driving.
the last time ems was sold out- it was close to a 3 month waiting list. i went with dyna-trac because of that.

I noticed no increase in mileage. But it's a way better setup and the way the truck should have been made in the first place.

Sooner or later everyone will be in there replacing axle U joints and ball joints. It would be a mistake to not do the hubs unless you plan to get rid of the truck. Even with no increase in mileage, the ability to have 2WD low and less wear on the front drivetrain makes it worth it.

Raspy and Bigman,

I am definately seeing and increase in mpg. The 3/4 of a tank I have used since the hubs were installed was all local driving. Around town and to/from work and I can tell my miles on this tank are up from my usual amount.

I do not think the savings will pay for the kit for a very long time. I chose to do the free spin because I needed to do the front axle joints and knew the hubs would be damaged trying to do this. I did not want to replace the stock hubs and end up with the same thing another XX miles down the road. The decision was a long term choice as I want to keep the truck forever and it is the right way to use the truck for me. All ball joints, tie rod ends are now greasable. The axle u-joints are not and all of the vendors recomended using sealed style and I went with their word on this. I have a long driving trip with the family coming up soon and am anxious to see how much the free-spin kit will help highway MPG. The feel in the steering wheel is another benefit that the kit results in. It must be from not having the load of the front axle ujoint to try and overcome while turning. It feels like a different truck to drive and steer.
Very happy that I chose to upgrade to free spin hubs.
When it is time again to do bearings or if I have a failure on the road it should be a much cheaper and easier service.
