did you start hammering on it before it was at full operating temp? with the added fuel it will heat up quicker.

It will warm up quicker due to the added fuel. On my truck it will stay just below the middle mark, but when I give it a hard run or pass someone it will jump right above the middle mark... never goes past that though.

I just got mine yesterday and I have to say, I'm not blown away on sw 5. I do have a california truck, but I was under the impression that the new software would bring it up to the same level as the HO trucks, and then add power. Truck is waaaay faster than it was, but it was a slug. I launched it pretty hard today, no smoke and a weak 2nd gear scratch. It did start rolling coal in 3rd though, maybe I just don't know how to drive. I am on 35s and run a pretty tall rearend, 3.73 I believe. Should I try a different software?

Try sw7 you'll love it!!! Exercise caution though...you'll be gettin into clutch slipping territory.

I'll definately check sw 7 out, but I was actually referring to different versions, like the 4.11 moderate tqm and whatnot that everybody on here is always talking about, but I think I read on one of these threads that the latest release (Dec. 07) smokes less than what it was shipped with. So far I really haven't been able to wrap my brain around all the different softwares and versions and stuff.

If you want smoke, go wild torque management. It will guarantee a big ol' grin and a ton of smoke right off idle. You will only be able to do it a couple of times though without a clutch. Load it once and try it 1 time and you will see. The clutch will be on the priority list then so you can harness the power.

I am on 35x12.5's and I had Smarty on sw9 and the MP8 about 75% and romped her in 3rd and it just lit up the tires. I then jammed 4th (about 35-40mph) after it bit in 3rd and the rear end scooted out on me once the turbo lit in 4th.
Pretty nasty

Do you have a boost elbow?
Try the stock injector/aftermarket turbo program.

That's a big negatory on the boost elbow, which is simply a copper elbow that threads into the wastegate on 03-04's right? I read about it on here somewhere but don't really know much about much

I know I need a clutch, but I have a 5 speed and am thinking that Ill probably want to upgrade the input shaft so I can run a 6 speed clutch when it comes time for it to be done, which is not soon, afraid I already blew my budget for this fiscal year, it ain't cheap livin in hawaii
