Feedback on H2 wheels and tires

I found a set of chrome H2 wheels with tires locally for $1000. The tires have 7 miles on them.

I need of some new tires but don't want to regret buying load range D tires which these will be. I do not tow heavy. So the question is will I have a problem and is this a decent price.

Thanks,
Gary

You shouldnt have any problems at all, I run BFG M/T's D rated, and they are just fine. As for the price, it's fair, I think. I'd say go for it. These are 315 BFG A/T's right?

Hey Bullpin.

I run the H2's and BFG 315's, no problems with the load range D and I tow about 15-18K loads. I run the tire pressure at 50lbs which is the mfr rec pressure. You will have to get the hub centers machined out by someone, or you can do it yourself with the right tools. I did a set for a friend on a variable speed drill press with a hole saw, tires were still mounted. Do a search, you will find info regarding this stuff. The tires alone are worth the price new. The rims usually are around $250-$350 on ebay, then you would have shipping, plus a machine shop. As I see it, that's an OK deal.

I've got 50k on my setup and have 4 new BFG AT KOs coming on Monday. Tows well with 11k+, and unloaded daily driving. I've been happy with the setup and it looks good too.

Sounds like a decent price. Chrome fetches a higher price than others. If you shop arround and are patient and lucky, you may be able to find the equivalent for $800 including shipping (these show up on ebay about once a month). If you are lucky enough to avoid the shipping, then maybe $600 picked up. I've seen these being sold more often for $1000-$1500, so your deal sounds in the ball park and fair enough. Inspect them to make sure they are in good shape.

Think about using a router to open up the center hole, easier than a hole saw and cheaper if you have to buy everything.

The only thing I don't like about the BFG tires is I'd rather have a more quiet less agressive highway tread. On the other hand, in poor weather the tread needs to be more agressive on this wide of a tire or you'll ne floating over slush and snow... its a decent compromise.

I'd buy the package, mount the tires on stock rims and sell the H2's on eBay or something.

check your local Craigslist. I see them there for less quite often.

But doesn't 315s on stock wheels rub for most, although there are many running this setup? Stock wheels are also under the minimum rim width for the BFGs. H2 wheels are wider and should be more stable for the tow and wear more evenly? They also won't rub.

I have never seen these wheels on the local craigslist, won't hurt to check. They are chromed wheels and no tire mileage, which fetches more of a premium I think.
