FASS or not to FASS
#16
I have been running the 95 gph fass for awhile now. you can hear it when you first hit the key and a little when the truck is running. one good thing is it will never leave you stranded. the relay went in mine and I was running without a fuel pump for at least a couple of months before I noticed that it wasn't working.

I had my fass mounted straight to the support that holds the bed. It was loud. I pulled it off and put a piece of .25 inch rubber between the pump mount and the bed and it really quieted it down. Mounting straight to the bed without a piece of rubber makes the bed a megaphone, ampliphying the sound.

I would recommend a FASS we have 4 of them around our place with no trouble. I would order the 3 mic filter as well. Toughest part of the install is getting the stock fuel line off of the tank. Use a plasma torch to cut hole instead of a drill. Apply a slight amount of air pressure to the fuel tank when you are trying to prime it.
IT takes fuel to make power.

I have a FASS and won't purchase it again, very NOISY unit. BD pump isn't a very clean install, I installed one a few years back on my dad's 98. You have locate a spot on the frame and mounting is a bit tricky as you put nuts on the inside of the frame, holding them while tightening bolts. Then you have to get a pipe cutter and hack off part the factory fuel line on route to the engine. You connect rubber fuel hose to the pump. Not sure what the output is on the BD pump.
Those were the first release we did. They used a carter pump that was 12psi and 100gph. Now 16psi and 165gph gearator style.

any one call fass lately ? my 150 gph pump has gone bad
However FASS said they will stand behind it
But I have been waiting for a pump from fass for a few weeks now Fass told me that the company they used to manufacture their pumps has gone belly up in this economy
as of last week when I called FASS they told me that they are in a holding wait in line pattern still trying & waiting to get new pumps made from some other supplier FASS is putting all new orders on a customer waiting list board and will ship as soon as the new pumps arrive ?
Fass said no word yet on the exact ETA of the new mfg made pumps ?

I have had very good service from my 180GPH Fass. It has been on my truck for three years now and IMHO is just as quiet as the big Airdog. I have also had excellent customer service from Dan @ FASS anytime I have called with questions.

Mine was cake, with a few extra parts....
I used a fully modified, drop-in cannister:
I DID NOT have to cut, splice, or do anything with the fuel filler neck.
I can drop the tank and NOT have to worry about removing the large bed.
I DID NOT have to measure, cut, or worry about the draw straw length.
I DID NOT have to pop a hole in the fuel tank!
I simply remove the stock cannister and drop in the replacement cannister. How much more easy can that be?
The kits can be purchased for you to modify on your stock cannister or you can get the whole, entire cannister.........like I did.
Either way you go, I highly suggest an aftermarket fuel system. I cannot stress how much better, stronger, and faster my truck runs after I installed the Air Dog 150. It is hands down, one of the best mods I have done.

Great response on the airdog install!!!, thanks. Judging the amount of corosion on the filter canister, and fuel rail, they must use an extreme amount of salt on the roads near you?. We dont get much snow in Tacoma, and have never seen corosion like that.

I have run a Fass95 HPFP for several years and GDP 2 micron filter. The Fass was real loud when mounted to the bed rail. Ended up using radiator hose to suspend the fass from the rail and it can't be heard with the truck running. Tac
