FASS Install Question

Hey guys,
I did a search on this, but couldn't find what I was looking for.

Is there anything special I need to do to install the FASS kit? ie lift the truck, remove tires, etc? I'm planning on performing the install tomorrow and hope to not run into any surprises.

thanks guys!

I just did mine and it was no problem. You can remove the tire if you want but I didn't and don't find it neccessary.

I removed the tire and the liner on the rear drivers side so I could gain access to the top of the fuel tank, I didn't need to remove the front tire.

One other thing...the fuel line fitting on the top of the tank can be frustrating...I think I spent more time trying to undo that than I did on the rest of the install.

I pulled both wheels off to make things easier. If you plan on removing the stock LP you will also want to have allen head sockets. It's a real pain removing those bolts with regular allen wrenches...

I left mine on. I covered both ends of the old line with plastic sandwitch bags and tie wrapped them. It still scared me when the fuel leaked out of the line at the tank. I thought I had a fuel leak at the tank connector....but I didn't.

Alright...I'm currently in the install process....GOOD LORD mounting this thing is annoying! I have no freakin' idea where those images they have are from! Anyway, I'm going to drill where I "think" will work out ok.....I hope it works out ok....oh boy....

It helps to have an angle drill. We didn't have one, and my holes are a little calleyhunkered. Put some type of vibration pad behind the braces and it will cut down on the humming noise caused by the pump.

You should be able ti figure it out. The single hole on the main bracket goes under one of the bolts that holds the bed down.

I actually mounted my pump one rail back from where the directions said to. Trying to get the filler hose off and drill in there looked like a real pain. Moving it back one rail made life much easier. Long beds are certainly easier than short beds.....

If you just got the pump then you should remove the stock LP and install the block off plate they provide. It has a fitting for the fuel line so that you can still use the factory filter canister. If you have the pump w/ filters then you don't need to worry about it.....

Alright, I got the install done!! Thank you all for your tips and advice! I ended up installing it on one of the bed mounts. I will post a picture tomorrow and hope I didn't screw this up. The brackets feel solid though...I was actually a little concerned when I saw two bolts holding up this fairly heavy item....man...after I screwed those bolts in...that bracket was SOLID.

Humming is VERY light, not really noticeable. I think they sent me the 150 GPH, I ordered the 95 but this one says 150 on the label where the serial number is (any way I can tell for sure?)...oh well, at any rate its working

I am happy to say the fuel line took me all of maybe a minute to take off...I am embarassed to report I had a tougher time with the fill hose. I also ended up putting the relay in a different place, I couldn't find the screw they pictured. The only one I did find in that vicenity was too large. I didn't want to "make my own rules" and drill a bigger hole in the relay.

Tool-wise, I didn't need anything special except the torque wrench and some zip ties. The one thing I did have to go out and buy was a 17mm deep socket for the injection pump o'ring fuel fitting.

I checked for leaks and didn't see any, I took it out for a quick drive and everything still looks promising. I haven't been able to open it up and really see if my top end (where I potentially may have been losing pressure) has changed. My next track date is the 25th.....I'm in one of those pyschological moods of hoping but not expecting for it to make a difference when I get there. I do have a really ignorant borderline stupid question though.....ummm...do I still need/use my OEM fuel filter? In other words, should I concern myself with replacing this filter at regular intervals?

Again, thank you all for your help! I REALLY could not and would not have done it without the help and support of DTR.

Cheers!

I'm mulling over an aditional support for the pump assembly - having the thing cantilevered off the single bracket makes me nervous, a few thousand good hops / bumps in the back country will do nasty things to the single bracket; Has anybody else added a secondary support?

Look at the mount where the pump motor sits. There should be an A or B stamped somewhere on the block. A=150 B=95. I thought the same thing (that I was sent the wrong one). They all say 150 on them.
