I guess when you step back, these trucks are really not very reliable. I'm at 42k and I've seen the rollback twice. Now I'm looking for ways to keep my tranny going and keep the fuel getting to the engine to avoid a future encounter with Mr. rollback again. Not very impressive on a $45k truck, but there is a strange addictive sickness to it all.

Bottom line, these trucks have a million ways to die or become wounded. I just want to make my truck more reliable for the long haul since it will be paid off this month. I can't prevent everything, but i'd like to address the main issues which IMO are the fuel supply and the transmission.
The trucks are reliable man...and if your engine is stock, your tranny is reliable too. Diesel is DIRTY stuff though, and requires more maintenance than gas motors do to keep them clean. That's just the nature of these beasts. If you think that the injectors on THESE things are unreliable, head on over to the Ford forums and talk to them about their issues...few months back, there was a recall on 40k of the new '08s because their injectors and regeneration systems were so jacked up, the trucks turned into flame throwers out the tail pipe...NEVER heard of a Dodge doing that. If you maintain your truck at a slightly higher standard that what is called for from the factory maintenance book, you can get a half million miles out of that engine...you'll NEVER see a gas motor reach numbers like that. Everything wears and tears...and some trucks are worse than others...but if I can get as many miles out of my truck as my father has gotten out of his, I will GLADLY pay a few grand to tighten things up in the tranny, replace some injectors or maybe a lift pump rather than buy a whole new truck THREE maybe FOUR times like gas engine owners do...Course, I have chosen the OTHER path and have began the bombing process on my truck rather than staying stock...so my future might be a bit more expensive than my old man's was!

Another really good point.

You're also trying to cram the extra/smaller contaminants through a stock filter at over double the PSI it was designed to work.

You guys are giving me a headache!

I like aspects of both the Walbro and the Fass. At this point, I think it's 6 and 6 either way you go. Maybe price and ease of install will be a deciding factor.

Good point.
Granted, both systems are a little pricey, but it seems like it would be much cheaper to build your own using the Walbro pump as opposed to paying roughly $300 more for some rubber tubing and a couple of fittings. I wish I had the mechanical knowledge.

FASS has a 6 year warranty(Walbo does not) Walbro is an adappted gasoline pump, FASS is made for our trucks. Walbo has a regulator, FASS does not.

Agreed, get the 150/95. Filters to 2 microns and removes water.

Where do you get your 2 micron filter and what is the part # if you don't mind?

I have been running the Fass system (150gph) with the 10 micron filter for about 2 years now problem free. The system has a slight noise in the bed of the truck(I have a truck cap installed)but other than that there is little noise IMHO.coobie

I get mine at http://www.kensperformancesolutions.com/home.html The fleetguard is 5 Micron. But give Kenny a call, and he will either get you the filter or give you the cross reference. He is great to work with. I think the 2 Micron just came out (Baldwin I think.).
