California does not have smog checks for registering diesels yet. Still in the air for diesel p/u (gross weight) pre 2010 or not.

Cali has no diesel smog tests, but Las Vegas sure does. I had a cop following me around town a few weeks ago. I had to drive like I had an egg under my foot. I still haven't seen anything in the mail about smoke or pollution and I never was pulled over, but I sure was scared for about 5 minutes.

I'm still registered in Spokane County WA but in Chattaroy at my folks place not Spokane City. I'm scared because Vegas has strict diesel emissions as well. 40% opacity on 1991 and newer, they even have a RAT hotline and email address for complaints.

People (EPA freaks) can report you out here and get a fix it ticket letter sent to you. Or an LEO can have descretion if they see a lot of smoke blowing out the tail pipe to pull you over. That's the only crack down so far out here in California.

Got to be puttting on a show to get noticed.

God I love Texas. Filled a cops car with smoke the other day( on accident, and not very smart), but man it was hilarious. He didn't do anything but give me a dirty look... think I even saw a little soot on his face, haha...jk. But anyway, so far so good here, you can pretty much blow smoke all in a cops face and have nothin happen. But I did hear of a couple towns like stephenville making city rules that if it blocks the vision in the road for a certain amount of time then its a fine, but I dono if they're bustin people yet or not

Talking

OK, I passed!

I ran all the fuel out of my truck, filled up with B20, turned the EZ off, TST off. I loaded up the revo software last night, timing 1, rail pressure 1, tm 1, and loaded sw #0. It was still smoking a little, so I placed a piece of wood under the carpet beneath the go peddle, it would rev to about 2800 rpm.

As I stated earlier, you are allowed 40% opacity, this time the truck blew a 39%, whew! That was close.

After I left the emissions I loaded sw #9 , timing 2, rail pressure 2, tm 4, Revo is definitely not as strong as 411 (the bio fuel probably does not help).

Can someone tell me if I reload 411, will I lose the revo features?

Thanks for all the suggestions, they were much appreciated. Jess

Did you leave the two smoke oil out of the fuel mix, or did you still have some walmart two cycle oil in the tank? I've got to pass 40% next June here in Vegas and I hope i can without an injector swap. Seeing your difficulty makes me concerned.

How big are you flux injectors?

When was the smog on diesels passed for those of you?? Did they go back a few years to catch the older ones or was it when the law went into effect so did the vehicles of that time and forward?? I went to a diesel for several reasons and NO smog testing was one of them, I didn't buy a new one 'cuz of blue tech (smog testing). I just got my 1st diesel in March.

CA does not do smog testing on diesels. When they do start it is supposed to be in 2010 and I believe it is onle for 2010 and newer. It is not supposed to cover anything older, however I could see it start with the '08s. I had been stopped a couple times by Comercial traffic enforcement and those guys are the worst to get pulled over by because all they do is enforce vehicle code and equipment violations. He looked under my truck to make sure I had a muffler and that was it. Of course at the time it was a 6" exhaust sytem, but it was tthere and working, so he let me go.

I wouldn't worry about smog on your '05 in CA.

Sounds like the same rules here in Phoenix:

Heavy-duty (8,501 lbs and greater) diesel vehicles in Maricopa County are tested using the Society of Automotive Engineers J1667 test protocol, commonly referred to as the "snap-acceleration test." The test consists of measuring the opacity of three, wide open throttle, no-load accelerations from idle to maximum governed engine speed with the transmissions in neutral. The average opacity for the three accelerations cannot exceed the applicable standard for the model year of the engine. The maximum allowable for engine model year 1991 and newer is 40 percent opacity, for engine model year 1990 and older the maximum is 55 percent opacity.

My truck came from Colorado, there is a state of Colorado emissions exempt vehicle sticker on the windshield.

It may be unpopular to state this here, but there is such an emphasis on the green marketing that the dirtier we run these trucks, the more likely we will become the targets of stricter legislation. As more people become smug about their gay new hybrid they will look for something to complain and write letters about. I had a woman in a civic hybrid giving me a dirty look at a light the other day, then she shook her finger at me in a scolding manner. Her lic. plate was "X2CHNGE". These are the douchebags I'm talking about. I'm not suggesting we walk on eggshells, just be aware that others are paying attention and they know how to write letters and vote.
