Exhaust Swap Problem

I've got the MBRP T-304, 4", CAT back exhaust sitting on the floor of my garage at the moment. For the life of me, I can't get the factory exhaust off. The original install U bolts were put on so tight that the tubing appears to in inseperable now. I've tried securing the section just past the cat to the frame, and then used a come-along to pull the back section from the rear. It didn't even seperate an inch! Can someone point me in the right direction? Can they be taken apart, or do I have to cut it into sections with a sawsall? Will a sawsall even work? Towards the end of my attempt I tried to cut it (all I had was a six inch blade for cutting thick metal) and it barely made a mark.

The stocker is a pill! Some folks heat it with a torch, pry and beat on it and then after a couple of nasty burns just take the sawsall to it anyway. Just make sure you leave enough to connect the new stuff.

I just went through the same thing. The factory u bolt were so tight they flared the pipes. the only way around it is to use a grinder to cut a split the outer pipe so you can pry it apart and over the inner pipe. BTW make sure you wear eye protection!!!!....don't ask how I know.

This is what I did when I replaced my muffler. With a small cutting wheel on my dremel I cut just the outer pipe lengthwise and pried it open.

I went through the same exact thing, as have many by the looks of it. the best advice I got (this is after attempting to pry, heat, pull, cut, grind and beat relentlessly) was to forget it all, and go straight to the down pipe coming out of the turbo, and loosen the v bolt (i think that was what it was called. basically the bolt holding the exauhst to the turbo). then you disconnect all the hangars from the rubber housings, and simply pull down on the exauhst. presto! you should be able to slide the exauhst out, you might have to take off the guard for the differential but other than that, it should come right out.

seriously. it took 15 minutes after I got that advice.
hope that helps. and good luck.

Ditto, did three or four cuts lengthwise across the top (where the crimp is) and peeled the sections up til I could get the muffler off. Now it's taking up space in a corner of the garage.

Anyone come of with a good use for the stocker???

I cut and peeled my muffler to get it off... then heated it all back up .. put it back to round and welded up the cuts.. If I need to put it back on it should go back on ...

When I reassembled the exhaust with the muffler delete pipe I used stepped band clamps... no Dimpleing again for me...

Exhausts are easy!

We make one sawzall cut behind the muffler, disconnect the DP's V-band clamp, and carry both pieces into the shop and set them on the bandsaw... what happens next is up to the customer.

Thanks again to everyone for some great advice! Left work early today, got home, got the dremmel out, cut some slits, pried it open with a claw hammer and presto...popped right off. From start to test run was only two hours. The new sound is great! Deep, loud and aggressive tone when you get on the skinny peddle yet very civilized at cruising speeds. It was pouring rain, roads were a little slick, so I couldn't really put the new exhaust through it paces, but what I've heard so far, I LIKE! Once again, thanks for the helpful suggestions...this board rocks!

P.S. This tail pipe of this new system seems to sit quite a bit lower than the stocker. Is this normal? All of the hangers matched up perfectly, and it sits straight and level from the cat back. I only ask because it just looks like it could get caught up it I take it offroad. Comments? Suggestions?

Sorry about the quality of the pics:

had a hard time getting mine off @ 250 miles after I bought it new. Ended up taking the sawsall and cutting it into 3 pieces and pitching it in the back yard!
