Throw on a 51" Donaldson muffler....should cure all your problems and still keep a nice deep mellow tone...

Part # is M090535 for the 5" version of the muffler from ryderfleetproducts...

I had drone issues with my 4" with an Aero muffler....this muffler cured the drone...

Dodge makes a great 4" system with no drone.

That's what I have. No drone until you tow heavy. I towed 10k-12k from LA to SF and wished I had ear plugs! Little trailers are no big deal, but under a load this muffler is LOUD!

My system has stock downpipe>4" to 5" adapter>M090535>5" to 4" adapter>stock tail pipe

I have MBRP dropin muffler with a burned out cat., and it sounds 98% stock, seems like a wasted my $$. Any gasser with a turbo muffler makes more sound than mine. I guess I might have to run a straight pipe to hear a difference. The darn UPS truck sounds better than mine.

The reason I changed my stock 4" to a 5" was to have a free flowing system that would #1. sound good putzing around town #2. help lower the egt's #3. Be there for when I really start kicking some power.

Now there are some sacrifices here and there to which I'm comfortable with, yes while towing a #7500-8000 I get 'some drone'. That's why there is a radio or while traveling with others just talk a little louder (not much).

So basically you have to decide which is more important; #1. do you leave the exhaust alone and have your quiet #2. Change it so you motor breathes ALOT better and 'talks' to you while towing a descent load. Think of it this way; with a 5" you can tell how your cummins is running so if something goes wrong you can tell by the pitch of the exhaust tone.

If you think you loose low end power going to 5", then why can I spin/break loose/start smokin' my rear tires while towing #7000 coming off a traffic signal??

If you tow, your gonna have drone with the Donaldson. Its a great muffler and its cheap, but make sure if you get it, you dont cut the tip of the exhaust to angle it either way, because that will cause drone right away.
My MBRP 5" cat back is pretty good. Will drone when you tow, but w/no low there is no drone.

So the slash cut like OEM causes drone?

try a aeroturbine 4040xl it is real quiet slightly louder than stock but with a noticable sound, i cant say how it is with a heavy load but since i have put it in i have gotten a 7.12% mpg increase or 1.2 MPG which is great this is all hand calc-ed

No, that doesnt. Thuren had to cut his stock tip, so he could fit his leafs, and he said the few inches he lopped off cause the drone.

i cut mine just infront of the CAT and just behind the resonator, thru in some 4" SS... sounded great, hardly any drone... then i put a 13x5" tip on the end, i had to cut bout 4" off to fit it, and now i have a little drone at 65 empty, not bad, shoulda left it alone w/ no tip... aawwwwell!
