I thought I read that ATS stated in order to mate the two manifold sections together (before the install), that the back section had to be heated up......

I have never seen a brand new one right out of the box but I assume that ATS and BD and whoever else offers them allready has the 2 or 3 sections mated together to make it a more user friendly item. I could be wrong, maybe at first the instructions said this needed to be done and hopefully people complained and they made a fixture to do it in-house before they shipped out. Seems not everyone out there has the ability and torches/oven to accurately mate these parts together correctly without a "twist" and a nasty exhaust leak at the head.

My ATS came put together. I didn't have to make a single adjustment to it, either twisting it or on the length of it to make it fit. It bolted right in place out of the box.

Nathan Wright (MPI) and John Todd (BD's turbo engineer) are probably the brightest guys you'll ever meet where it come to the what best moves air through a Cummins.
Neither of these guys would use a product that didn't work.

I asked both of them if they thought I would gain anything by going to a different manifold or even a custom made header...Both said no.

MPI and BD use the exact same manifold.....That was good enough for me!

Bd And Ats

Well i was told from the guy i buy my parts from that he had received ats manifolds in bd boxes and just the opposite. Dont know how true it is, he has no reason to lie, but he says that they are all in bed together. And if you look at alot of programmers they do look similar. So he might be onto something. Who knows!! Just a thought.

That coated manifold looks nice! It has me wondering though, how does the standard coating on the ATS hold up?
