exhaust is getting hot

I just got through putting a silver bullet 66 turbo on my 06 along with a 5" turbo back exhaust to try to cool my egts down. I put an edge juice in and 75 horse injectors to be able to run the bigger turbo. Short and sweet, got plenty of power, but i'm right back in the same boat with hot exhaust trying to pull some of these mountains out here. My welding rig weighs around 14k, is there ever gonna be a way to cool my exhaust off enough where I don't get passed by bicycles? Thanks for any info.

Thats too big of a single to tow with, especially at altitude.

A 64 would be better with the 75's. Also ditch the Edge for a Smarty it will cool you off 200* and help you spool the turbo faster.

Dump the 66 and get a 62. I had a 62 for more than 100,000 miles and loved it. Then when I recently rebuilt the engine I went with a silver 64. I absolutely hated it. It was hot in town and when I towed with it, it smoked non stop under 80 mph. I went back to the 62 and the truck is awesome again. I just got home from towing 14,000 lbs of steel plate on my trailer a little over 100 miles of the thruway at 50 - 80 mph depending on traffic and the truck does great never gets over 1100 deg. Smoke is very controlable as well. I run my Smarty on 5 timing on 2 RP 2.

I still have my factory turbo. Could i get the twin set up since i have the two turbos? Would that make the bigger turbo do right? Thanks for the advice. I'm planning on getting a smarty and stacking it, leaving the edge on stock and just using the attitude for guages.

A intercooler is not gonna solve your problem. You are asking your truck to pull a heavy load, and you are adding alot of fuel. The 66 is not helping you. As stated a 62 with a less fuel or go twins but your set up is completely wrong for your application. Not trying to be negative, just speaking the truth. Do some reasearch, see if you want to go twins or you want to go with a single. The most expensive part of this hobby is doing things twice, so make sure get it right the first time. ( I should know I did my trans twice and my twins twice can you say by bye $$$$$$$). Good luck.

I agree with Rye for most of his post but you don't need less fuel. I have bigger injectors and the 62 takes care of things pretty well. That being said I have a second turbo that I will be adding soon. Rye, want to talk about expensive I did a complete overhaul to my engine and ran it for about 1000 miles and split 2 injector bodies and ruined the engine. More than 20,000 in less than a month!!!

So Rye ur sayin that the 66 and my factory turbo wouldn't be a good match for what I need it to do? I'm not worried about running off and leaving folks, just to be able to go the speed limit would be nice, whether I'm pulling a hill or not.

The 62 is the best choice, the only reason I said 64 was the size of the nozzle you have, that may be just a bit too big for the 62 and towing. If you had stock or 50hp nozzles I would say 62 for sure... Maybe a 62/71/12 would be a good idea.

I wouldn't even use the Attitude for gauges, read too many people getting erroneous readings.

And no the factory turbo and a 66 wouldn't make a good twin setup.

Well crap. Reckon what I could even do with this 66 turbo? Does industrial have a pretty good return policy? I don't think I've even drove 100 miles on this turbo. Anyone want a 66? haha.

Does the 62 give quite a bit more boost than the stock turbo?

Yes it will. And with Smarty timing and those sticks it will spool like stock.

There is a guy on here with 62/65/12 and a Smarty Jr on SW3, and Helix cam... he says 40psi of boost before 2000 rpms!, and doesn't get hot towing HEAVY!

Did they recommend it to you?

But I am sure you could sell it on here pretty easy.

Well I called a friend of mine in PA, well i thought he was a friend of mine, maybe he just doesn't know what he is talking about, anyway told him my truck was basically stock with just a bladerunner elbow and a stage II afe intake, told him my egts were getting too hot so he recomended the 66, then told me I would prob need an edge and some bigger injectors to run it. Me not knowing anything about this til a few weeks ago, jumped right on board with it. Now I'm about 7 grand into this project and really disgusted by the performance.

That sucks!

You would have been best off with a Smarty Jr to start, and go from there.. These trucks run about 1450* stock and are designed for it.
