12-15 additional horsepower.........probably in the ball park average

Better MPG.......Maybe just a few

Lower EGT.......most certain.....probably in the range of 50-200

Seems like alot of guys are pleased with the MBRP....I would also give Rip a call at Source Automotive & see what he could do for you....http://www.sourceautomotive.biz/sa_dodge-exh.htm

The difference between the 409 and 304 is a lot. With the MBRP you get a 5 year warranty on the 409 and lifetime on the 304. The difference between 409 and 304 is the iron content (a magnet will stick to the 409-this is the easiest way to tell the quality of stainless). 409 will get surface rust on it and will look bad in a few months. 304 is basically polished all the way out and will not rust. The difference is worth the money. I would not consider 409. I would either go with aluminized or 304.

I live in Texas and have the 409. It looks as shiny as the day I bought it (2 yr. ago.)

That is because you's guys don't get snow in Texas, hence no salt on the roads. Salt = rust. As us northerners, we can tell you all about snow and salt on the roads.

Don't choose aluminized over 409! No stainless steel is truly stainless, depending on what you get on it (304 grade doesn't like blood or urine
please don't ask me how I know this!), so 409 will stain faster than 304; however, the coating on 409 is sacrificial, so it won't hurt it structurally.
Aluminized STEEL, on the other hand, will rust out over time...

We only use 304 in the shop, as it strikes a happy medium between pot metal & Inconel or Waspalloy

My 409 pipe started looking bad in months. It has a lot of brown rust and pits. And it is not covered by the warantee. Choose 304, much more corrosion resistant.

The 304 is the best system! It does cost more byt as mentioned it will look great for many years. For guys that live in the colder enviroments where road salt is used the 304 just holds up much better.

I'm just saying that if you're gonna spend the extra money to go with stainless over aluminized, spend a little more and get the best stainless, the 304. If you're trying to save money, buy the aluminized. My aluminized MBRP looks better (no rust) after 6 months than my buddy's 409 after 2 months.

According to Banks, the 409 is better suited to the heat cycling that the exhaust system sees and will not turn as brittle as the 304, but I'm not
a metalurgist so I can't confirm the notion.

If Banks really wanted to avoid temp-cycle induced embrittlement, they'd use a better 300 series (316 is most common), but it costs much more - using 409 they can claim (& charge) for stainless $$$ at a lower cost $

As far as horsepower gains, there wont be any that you can feel, possibly there could be some on the dyno, but minor.

As far as EGT's go - I noticed about a 20 degree reduction, they really don't make much of a difference.

I got the 409, because at half the price of 304, I could get two systems in 12 years if they really fell apart right after the 5 year warranty period, and I don't think I'll even have the truck that long. Makes economic sense. In any case, I've had it now through two nasty ohio winters (they use tons of road salt here), and while the pipes have a slight surface rust to them, as mentioned above, it's just an outside layer, and will not eat through the pipe. I wouldn't waste the money on 304, unless you just like having 'the best' for the sake of it..
