My opinion, by a straight through muffler and be done with it. If your not looking to go much over 350-400hp then the factory exhaust with a straight through muffler will be all you'll ever need. Donaldson has some really nice mufflers out for sale that would probably fit your needs real nicely. If you want to buy a full 4" exhaust then get a cheap one. I've dealt with some of the high priced ones and I've dealt with the cheaper ones and personally I think that they are all about the same in noise level and built quality. All go together the same way and they are all good quality parts. I also would never pay for stainless steel. I've had an aluminized system on my truck for almost 5 years now and even after countless trips to the beach and driving through the ocean at high speeds the pipe has never rusted.

I think the mbrp exhaust is your best bet.it has good exterior sound with little drone.i will be buying it myself soon,i now have magna flow and it has lots of drone and i think it gives the truck a raspy note.

I was told that to get rid of the drone you should use at least a 8" diameter straight through muffler, this should also give a good outside note.

best way to go is a aeroturbine off the dp and a roxx silent might muffler and have the underside of the truck sprayed with bed liner to help deaden sound. i have tried mbrp, magnaflow, donaldson they are all to loud but this setup is very pleasing even when towing 10,000 lbs

dodgetech77,

Save yourself a lot of money and get the MBRP replasement muffler and source a 3.5 to 4.0 inch adpator and you're set with a stainless muffler and money left over for a programmer of module!!! The MBRP is technically designed for the 4.0 pipes on a 2004.5 but with the adaptor it works great on a 2003/04 too, ask Tommeygun he has done a lot of them! Call us if you have any questions etc.

There's a guy in CO that got tired of the drone and added an extra 10" or 11" Magnaflow muffler into the system & said that it took care of the problem.

I put a 14" Magnaflow on my truck using the 3-1/2" to 4" adapters. It works fine but, is loud & does have the drone when hauling a trailer uphill in the 2200 rpm range. I haven't done anything about it because I'm rarely in that unique situation. When I am, it's loud enough that it's kind of fun. Certainly wouldn't want to have it sound that way all the time, though.

It is louder...Not so much that the wife complains, but it can be heard....Some rpms/speeds its almost silent, others it roars....Stick a 5x18" tip on there and it booms
