Hey all the return cap is leaking on my amsoil bypass..instead of getting a new one I was thinking about drilling and tap the valve cover. Any thoughts, pro, con? Thanks!

The oil returns awfully slow from the head on the 5.9's.
I would be afraid of too much oil staying up top, possibly causing excess oil to leak past the guides and seals.

Should work. That is similar to the setup I have with my FS2500

Why clutter up the engine bay?

What is that through the pan? I am sorry I am on my phone so the resolution is not that good. My only concern is the metal savings in the pan, how do you protect against it?

No drilling: sharp punch followed by a self-tapping hollow bolt. JB welded in for a permanent, leak-free connection.

You can get them from Frantz.

I don't think it's that slow.... consider how fast you pour 11 qts of oil into it when you do a change.

The Gulf Coast-01 on my 1st Gen flows around 1qt./minute new. That is relatively fast in the bypass oil filter world.

You could use one of the knockouts into the oil pan since you don't have twin turbos.

Personally I wouldn't worry about putting it in at the valve cover. Honestly I believe most peoples return is through the oil cap anyway.

Not in that location.

Why make the hole any bigger than it needs to be?

I think I am going to go with the valve cover...so next dumb follow up question any specific location that would be better than any others? Should I just drill into the filler neck? Thanks folks!
