Electrical Accessories? Any Ideas..

I need some ideas on installing electrical assessories. I am currently in a Intro to automotive electronics class if you will. One of my projects I must complete is to install some sort of accessory that would have to do with the electronic side of the vehicle. I'm kind of coming up blank on ideas here. I was thinking of installing some bright reverse lights or something along that line. Any one have any install pics, Ideas etc. I am open to all ideas as long as they are relatively cheap. Horns, lighting, whatever. I just need some ideas can anyone help me out?

Well, i reccomend installing an AUX fuse block on the steel support to the right of the radiator as you are looking at it. I have my heated seats hooked up to it and the rest of my electrical accesories.

I dont have pics, but i have my sirius radio all custom wired. I created another cig lighter plug in behind the dash, then shortened the cord from the radio and pluged that into there. Then I have the fm modulator kit (as the new sirius kind of suck without it) mounted in behind the radio itself. I hid the antenna wire in the dash. And I got a custom mount from www.tss-radio.com and mounted it on the dash, and routed the wires from the unit all neatly into the dash

hope that helps

do something functional, like a CB radio, or some AUX lighting (fwd/rear) I plan on running some side marker lamps soon, I will find a link to some that I found to be PERFECT.

Hey NH I just got a set of PIAA and asked for photos of the mount. But they have a real nice wiring setup.

Remote Starters are nice, but not really for a beginner project.

If you plow you might consider hidden strobes. I've done 2 with Whelan and I have one to do with Soundoff Signal (highly recommended by members of this site). The installation is pretty basic, but it does involve removing the seats and cutting the carpet to mount the head unit directly on metal to dissipate the heat. Since my last truck was stolen, this set will be tied into the alarm--that should draw some attention if anybody breaks in.

Heated seats are really easy to wire, but you're getting into removing seat covers--not hard, but a little involved. The results are well worth it on cold days.

Radar detector, new head unit for the stereo, even air horns are pretty easy. So should a tailgate latch popper.

HID headlights are simple too, but make sure you don't have any legal issues. I put them on my 02 Honda Accord and the first time I lit them I swore they'd be a problem they're so much brighter than stock, but in nearly a year I've never even had so much as a high beam flash from an oncoming driver. They're so much better than halogens I'll never go back or own a vehicle without them again.

Let us know what you finally decide on.

I like the idea of the remote starter a lot. I may look into that.

Aux lighting is something I was deffinately looking into as well.

Thanks for all the great ideas guys, Keep em coming

Jake.

edit: I was also thinking of one of those Howards turbo timers that we had up there in the DTR store but it looks like we do not sell them any longer.

An easy and very useful idea would be installing an aux. fuse block as sold by Geno's. It comes complete with all fuses and and relay in one neat package. It has a main wire connected directly to the battery, another to ground and yet another that hooks into the vehicles existing block for a low wattage ignition on. Once hooked the block has a number of wires that are clearly marked. Some are ignition on and several are battery live. This would be a simple first step. From there any number of project would be simpified by using the existing wires from your new fuse block ,that will not tax the vehicle wiring system. Part of my job is installing emergency lighting/wiring for Police/Fire vehicles. Good luck and have fun

I also suggest that Painless Wiring Fuse Block at Geno's. Then use it to connect some lights.
