EGT Probe installation question

EGT Probe installation question
Installing an EGT probe on an 04.5 600. The picture in the installation instructions shows a point too far back into the compartment where my drill doesn't fit. My actual exhaust manifold has a boss in the region with a slot in it and surrounded by a bunch of small circular nipples. Should I drill through this? Also what (if any) sealant should I use where the probe sleeve will thread into 1/8 NPT thread once tapped.

Almost anywhere is fine as long as you dont go for the center of the square "downpipie" that the turbo connects to. There is a cast "wall" in there. I saw that too but ended up buying a right angle drill to get further back. ( i have needed it before and it has come in handy since then.) The back cylynders are suggested because they run the hottest however you should be fine further up. I'd say go for it it might be a little thicker there but that means more threads. Also something I learned is dont tap all the way down the tap as it will not create the tightest fit. I used some hi temp copper antisieze and no leaking yet. You can search and see where others have put theirs. Oh and the only other thing I did was use grease on the tap and drill and then used the magnet to fish out shavings. I felt real comfortable with this method after seeing how much was kept out. Just take your time. Also, a small pipe wrench is a life saver if your tap handle is too big.

Assume the "tape the tail pipe" means to do exactly that and crank the engine to blow out the chips? My instructions only state to start the engine for 15 seconds. Planning to use grease on the drill & tap along with a magnet. Guess I'll follow up with a little tape.
Plan to drill the hole straight down about half way between cylinders 3 & 4 on the manifold.
Thanks:

did mine here
Didn't do thr tape thing. I just greased the bit, and more importantly the tap. I used a magnet to get whatever shavings were left. 20,000 miles later, no problems
Yep, a lil anti sieze on the probe cant hurt, thats what i did.

I just installed mine, approx where dodgedude did, except more verticle. I didn't grease the bit but used a magnet to get out the chips. I did oil the tap though so it would go in easier. I used 1600° anti-sieze on the threads.

I put my probe on the rear half of the downward part of the manifold. It was a little tight, but I was able to use a right angle attachment on my drill and it went just fine. I stopped about 1/4" from the largest end of the tap when I threaded it and the probe tightens up perfectly with no leaks or possibility of coming loose.
