Edge juice w/att. or smarty jr.

Trying to decide. Which one will give me better power for towing and better fuel mileage. I see yall talk about the jr. alot, just wandering how edge would compare. Not looking for exteme horse power, just better fuel economy. I have a 07 3500 mega cab 4x4 with the 5.9 and automatic, just recently put a gorend triple disc converter in it. I will probably be pulling 14,000 pounds one or 2 weekends a month. Thanks for any input.

I really like my Smarty Jr.

But if you don't have gauges yet, I'd say get the J/A because you get the power and the gauges in one package. The most important part is having the gauges so you know what your engine is doing.

just put my Edge juice/att. on 2 weeks ago. Really happy with it - you get gauges with this programer. like yourself, i put mine on for MPG, and I also tow a 10k fifth wheel RV. Last week went 1100 miles, and got 18.2mpg hand cal., so I'm satisfied with that.

Been there done that, I now run smarty with the Quad commander for gauges.
No foot print ,more adjustability, Beat guys who run the edge on their truck.. Priceless

I like my J/A, but I wouldn't buy it for mileage. If it helps it doesn't show on my truck, because I've yet to break 15mpg on the highway at any speed.

although we always recommend gauges anyway, with the Smarty JR, you don't really need them. You can crank it all the way up and never get it hot. The lack of a footprint is a big deal given the current move towards smog/obdII checks in all diesels. Mileage definitely improves with the JR, but the EDGEs are hit or miss.

J/a is the worst chip / programer ive ever used for mileage.... i've ran quite a few and i got to say edge wasn't thinkin on their part when they built this one.

Yes, I do. Which is why I advised the OP that he should get gauges.

I suppose I should clarify..you shouldn't get it hot enough to get into any trouble. Certainly a good exhaust/intake solution will also help keep temps down. Pulling a huge trailer over the mountains on 20" wheels with 35's and stock gearing might also contribute to higher than average EGTs. For **MOST** folks and most truck combos, the Smarty JR is pretty safe, even without gauges.

Hope I didn't offend. I should clarify as well. I was on the dyno when I saw that kind of EGT's with the Smarty Jr/ EZ stacked. I also saw 1300 when I was pulling my ski boat over Mt. Hood when I was stock. I just wanted to stress the importance of having gauges to monitor safe engine performance.

In general the Smarty Jr. will decrease EGT's.

nope not at all! To the OP, the EDGEs run HOT vs the Smarty and will deliver more power and better mileage in our experience. That said, gauges are always a good idea as attested to by most of the posters.
