tranny stuff

I wish the design was from the 60's!That would be great! My torqueflite in my Plymouth handles power unbelievably. It has stock shafts and puts 800 ft/lbs to the wheels on spray, with the front wheels about a foot off the ground. The two tranny's are far too different IMO.But I guess I will be lookin for a TC and a valve body before I even think about a box.I can't afford breakage.

In regard to this question... I have an '05 6 speed. Is it OK to run the Edge Juice with Attitude at all levels on this truck, or do I need to be looking into a new clutch, or can I wait until this one (the stock one) has served its purpose?

Is any one else running this set up on a 2005 6 speed? If so, how do you like it? And problems? Was it worth the investment??

I've been running the Juice/Attitude stacked with an EZ for a little over a year on my 04.5 and have had no problems with my clutch. I do no throttle launches and don't feather the clutch between shifts.

I have a 2005 with the nv5600 and edge juice with attitude that I have been running for about 15XXX miles with no problems. I have done two truck pulls where in one you could see the white smoke under neath the truck but the clutch is still holding fine in all gears. Southbend dual disc will be my next mod before the pulls start again next year.

they are not far to differnt. get a manual and compare. they were born from the same desighn. you are comparing a car that weighs 2500k to a truck that weighs over 7000k. gee...I wonder why the trucks are breaking things????

tranny

I understand the weight difference.I also understand that the converter in my Plymouth puts way more through my older tranny than this sloppy new one evr will. And also,my car is 3650 and geared the same as my truck.(3.55's and 30" tires/3.73's and 31" tires)I was mainly referring to the shaft troubles I hear of.Wheels-up launches for years don't break any hard parts in 727's.But doing boosted launches sounds almost suddenly terminal to the 48re's.But the slippage with mild power-adders does seem excessive as well.Bottom line is Chrysler knows 95% of these trucks will get modded. And they know they have not done a bit of their homework on the tranny. The only conclusion I draw from this,is that Chrysler wants to eliminate all the warranties possible from these trucks,so they make more money. Why else would they Knowingly produce a truck with a clearly inferior trans.???

I agree with you that the shafts in these things should not break as easily as they do with only a extra 100-150 hp. the competaters do not have shaft breakage problems with this hp range. they all are barely setup to handle the hp the trucks come with stock. its plain and simple...dodge wants to sell trucks...and they want to sell parts. believe me if dodge wanted to they could build this tranny up to handle anything you could throw at it as well as ford and chevy could. they dont make money that way. they do not want people playing with boxes and tuners either. I dont think that dodge thinks that 95% of these will be modded either.....thats an awfull high number. I agree it sucks that the dodge has the weakest stock tranny of them all but i still stick to the facts that the 48re is the big brother of the 727. the shafts may break easier but the 48 re has stronger everything else. Im not sure why the shafts break so easily but they apparently do........

Yes,I knew when this basic tranny made its debut as the 518/618 that it was patterned from the 727.I always thought it was a good thing.I just think they have gotten badly behind in the game here.I have pretty well decided that IF I get a box in the near future I will get the juice for the safeties. But I will have to live with the lower settings and the ford guys in front of me.That is until I get stuff done on other projects and can afford a $3000 dollar tranny.

One other question on this topic. Are most of the guys having hell with slippage the same guys that are runnin 35" or 37" tires???I got to thinkin maybe that is another big contributer, one that I will never have to worry about.

I have 3.73s, 37s, stock 48re and the Edge w/attitude.

I have used the higher levels, but try to not go to WOT all the time with them. I run leve 1-3 all the time, including when hauling.

When locked up, i have seen no more then 5% slip YET. But I do absolutley HATE the stupid dodge JUNK trans. Its WAY behind the competition, and makes me kind of upset at even buying a dodge. And I felt this way BEFORE any mods to the truck...

I am hoping to do VB and TC mods in the very near future, because I'm not happy with the way things are with the trans right now.
