Edge Juice With Attitude

I was thinking of having it installed tomorrow. My question is with the stock tranny 48re hold up on level 5 or will I have to do any mods. Already have an intake with a 5 inch turbo back exhaust. If not what is the safest level I could go on the stock tranny. What upgrades would I need to use level 5. Thanks. 2005 ram 3500 qc 5.9l cummins

The stock 48re will hold level 5 for a while. What you need is an after market tc and vb. Then you can use level 5 all day long and not have to worry about when something will break. If you plan on doing 20psi 4wd launches then you better look at billet shafts. Good luck.

I have the juice in my 05 and it can slip the trans on level 3. I haven`t went above that, I don`t have the cash for the TC and VB right now. How much slip is ok? I figured any slip is a bad thing. I am going to put on a deep pan, and use amsoil fluid in hopes to prolong it. Well see.

i've read anything more than 5% is bad. using the 4-way digital display on my attitude monitor, i keep the slip monitor (N or X%) in the lower right hand corner and monitor it when driving on the higher levels in overdrive. i don't know that much about it, this is just what i do

question for the experts, curious if it is safe to run levels 4 and 5 as long as the TC is not locked and slipping? eg. is it ok to launch on level 4 or 5 from a stop (in 2wd and not powerbraking of course) to waste the ricer beside you? i keep mine on level 1 95% of the time, but do enjoy the higher settings from time to time. i rarely use anything higher than level 1 at highway speeds in OD.

Jucie and 48re

If you run a handful of times hard into od and you feel a long second before shifting into od then you are toasting the od clutches. You need an upgraded tranny to run the Juice above lvl 3 wot into od. I found this out the hard way. Do it right and build the whole tranny. Best money you'll spend on your truck.

I use level 2 when towing my work trailer. When empty, I run the Juice on level 4. Now granted I have the 6 speed, but I get the best mileage empty on this setting. I just don't stick my foot in it when I'm in 5th or 6th gear. I'll toast my clutch if I do that. I would say with the auto that if you want to run on the upper levels do it. But do it judiciously!!!

I`ve seen up to 11% trans slip. You go to the records section of the attitude. I usually use mine in level 0, yup just stock. It does feel nice in the higher settings, but too worried about the tranny. I don`t go above level 3. I bought in for instant gauges, and the power was just a plus. For the time being I plan to use synthetic fluid, a deep pan with temp probe, and when the money is there a valve body and torque converter.

Your truck will drive through the converter in the level 3 setting, maby on 2.
Put the Juice in 3 and go to wot from a roll and watch the tack, it will stay on 3k in the first 3 gears. The moniter does not measure slip until the tc locks up.
The least that you need are a tc and valve body mods. Like someone else said, build the tranny right if you have the $.

Yes I know I must add a gauge for trans temp, I was thinking of ordering one from genos garage when I get the pan. Probably get the srt10 pilar mount for the gauge, so it looks factory.

juice

Well,I've been wanting the juice or the quad since I bought my 05.I am a die-hard MOPAR guytoo. But after reading these posts,I have to say,Dodge's engineer team must either be a bunch of stupid 4 yr. olds,or smoking some wacky weed. What kind of idiot would build a tranny for a truck with virtually NO safety factor for living with horsepower???

My brother and several others all run their powerstrokes in 150 hp settings ALL the time, towing 13,000 lbs.,or unloaded and launching with boost.Someone please, slap the crap out of those sleepy engineers so we can catch the competition without spending 2 grand or more on our brand new tranny.

For the most part I agree with you. This tranny desighn is from the 60's. It is a good tranny for the most part and they have beefed it up over the years but it is basicly still the same tranny. Now they are running it behind an engine that makes 325hp and 610 ft lbs torque but the shafts are still the same size and material??? Ford tranny's have there weak points too but you would be hard pressed to break any of the shafts in it running only an extra 100hp and the Tc's are pretty durable also. I have owned both and modded all of them. The flex plates are a real bummer also. what the hell is Chrysler smoking???? Oh well you have to pay to play its just that with Dodge you have to take out a second mortgage for it!!!

i see your point but i don't think allison and whoever builds the torqshift engineered them to handle HP and TQ increases over stock. that doesn't mean they won't hold it, but beat on either transmission and it will fail just like one of ours. 48RE is not perfect but seems to be holding up pretty well. keep your truck long enough and you'll pass the competition on the side of the road someday.
