edge insight for gauge use only?

I am in the market for gauges. My understanding is the the edge tuners are potentially harmful to the common rail trucks due to the increase in rail pressure. I am not looking to get any more power out of this truck until I can get the transmission rebuilt and a new clutch. I had a Edge tuner on my 99 24 valve and liked having the multiple gauge options. After pricing out triple pillar gauges I am wondering if I could use the edge just for gauges and then a smarty later for more power? Is this a reasonable idea?

I'm currently running the same setup on my 6.7. The edge Insight gauge system alone is much cheaper than the insight with juice (the tuning one) and matches well with a smarty tuner. Do yourself a favor and buy the expandable egt probe system and not the egt probe alone. later down the road the expandable system allows you to add multiple sensors to the insight like fuel supply pressure and such.

If you do get the insight make sure you shop around or wait for a sale to save some $$$. I got mine for $350 shipped to my door.

My disclaimer: I don't know what data points are available for the 5.9 so be sure to call edge and verify everything you need is on their list. Also one advantage for me is the edge can adjust my Smarty power level with the pod function. Again you need to verify with Smarty that pod is available on the 5.9 tuner to have that option at your finger tips.

I've been running the Edge Juice with Attitude for the last 80,000 miles without any difficulty. Prior to that I used the Insight as a monitor. Unlike the Juice the Insight will monitor, and you can view 16 areas of the engine as seen by the Trucks Computer. The Juice will only allow you to see four areas that you selected. With the insight you can select the 16 areas and shift the four screens 4 times while driving. That is if nothing has changed since I had one.

I liked the Insight a lot. Now that they are color it should be better, at least to look at.

I had the EGT probe with my Insight. Need that if you towing!
