Economy 1st.....Performance 2nd

I'm looking to improve the MPG's on my "06" auto. I am looking for any economy improvements that really work. My "03" had a Dr. Performance level 2 and it helped with both the economy and performance. I never had gages...but I never dogged it either and had no problems. If there is a non tracable box that works on the MPG's well, I would install some sort of monitor. I'm a old man that doesn't push it hard but would like to improve the MPG....where would you guys start?

I have yet to find any single thing you can do that will more than pay for itself. I don't think any such mods exist, unless they are really cheap (like the Tone Ring modification).

The Good Dr. sold you performance with no gauges?

My trusty 2002 gets better mileage than any 06 I've heard of and has over 900lb ft.

Then again, I'm stuck with the crappy 2002 interior (Mist Grey ) and most people would give up a few mpg to get the far superior interior of the newer models....

I thought to "02" was a much better chassis layout than the 3rd gens....I personally hate the full quad cab.....I liked the mini quad cab the 2nd gens had much more! I'm with you on the does it pay senerio....that is why I'm asking. The only free tune-up I know of is the toner ring mod....The dealer sold me the DR......and said they would back the warrenty....Never needed it...maybe I was lucky! But I just used the MPG's it gave me.....Ok I stood on it once just to see how far it would boil the tires.....It did! It is still new and after it was flashed I'm getting 16.5 townish....haven't had any long freeway trips to get a good reading. I still need to pull a good load over the pass to loosen er up.

The tone ring or Rokketech will get you about 1mpg and a Quad STd. box will get you about 2 mpg on the 30 hp setting. You and I have the same intentions. Improve MPG and get a little performance. I don't dog mine either. I would suggest gauges. At least Pyro and fuel Pressure.

Look at our XZT module. http://www.quadzillapower.com/products/xzt-series.html
This will give you a mileage gain and it is economicaly priced. Like someone else said it is hard to make the modules pay for themselves, but not the XZT.

It also broadens the powerband and makes it nice to drive. It is how they should have come from the factory.

All the advertised data looks good....Gages can cost more than the XZT....Do they recomend guages? If there is a warrenty issue can DC tell if it was installed?

EGT is the only gauge you really need.

Some would disagree with you, but I'd say that for the most part, that is correct: EGT is all you need.

I like how my boost gauge is so responsive, though-- it reacts much faster than the PYRO, and is useful for diagnostics as well as helping me driving with better MPG.

You don't have to have a Fuel Pressure gauge but it is nice to know. Tells you when you need to change your filter and also when your lift pump is acting up. It's a piece of mind thing.

From what I've gathered here and there, the rokktech sensor does not seem to work as well on the 06's. A fair number of people report no mileage gain or even a slight loss. I'm one of the few that has had a slight loss. I lost about 1.5 mpg overall. When I put the original sensor back in, the mileage came back. I don't AT ALL think this is a problem with the rokktech sensor-I think that the 06's simple have a different timing table, that doesn't benefit from the across-the-board timing advance the sensor brings.

xyzer if the dr performance worked good on your last truck why not try it again. i've got the stage 2 and the fuel mileage is great. i still worry about the longevity but there is a guy here in my area that has 100k on his and it don't treat it to kind, me i baby it.

That is still an option...I am doing a bit more reasearch this time I guess. I know I should have at least a EGT monitor of some sort when I'm pulling hard But these new trucks just have fewer and fewer mounting positions for gages! I wish they would build one with the protection built in!
