I wanted to go with a bigger tire, but I pull a 24' goose neck, and it is loaded heavy pretty often. Right now I am looking at the Toyo Open Country AT 285/70/17, I think it is E rated at 3750 @ 80psi and I know it is a very good tire, but if there is a bigger size that will carry a good load I might go with it.

Almost like the KORE Welds, what happens if you need another in a bad way? You could be SOL.

I know they are supposed to have rang E tires , but I also know 15 -20 people that hav put on 315 BFG and none have an issue. I still really wonder if The E tire is not masking a problem that is still there. I run 50 psi in the front and have yet to have issue with a 45K mile truck. That being said, I would PREFER an E rated tire, just in case some day I need that little mask!

That is the truth. I had one heck of a hard time getting a full size spare for my truck.
I've got about 3500 or so miles on my tires. Not one bad thing I would say about them.

Hey guys. I jost got the Toyo M/T 35/12.5/18. with 9.5" rims. I have had the Cooper ST and Cooper STT in 33 and 35/12.5/17's also. I am probably one of the most **** retentive perectionists you could ever know. Without question the toyo's are superior in handling in every way. Took a 100 or so mile road trip and was truly amazed how quiet, stable and smooth riding they are. Just my 2 cents. I also got hooked up by a good Les Schwab. They would tell anyone else they were out of stock. I have spent big $$ as you can see form the previous tires. The Toyo's are hard to find and expensive but worth it. Hope this helps someone make a decision. Later.

So what is the point of having a D rated tire that has a load capacity of 3,400 like my nitto terra grapplers if you can't use it because it's not a E rated tire, am I the only one who is confused, why even make a tire with that high of a load rating and give it a D rating, what's the point, who can use it, if it's not safe?

The D rated tire is capable of handling the load but does not have the overall strength of the E rated. The sidewall strength is where the E really outhandles the D. Have a good night.

I'm running 35" Nitto Mud Grapplers that are E rated. I went from 35" Pro Comp All Terrains that were D rated. The difference was night and day. My truck handles like it did with the stock 265s. The Pro Comps walked more in curves and rode a lot more rough.
