Dynoed truck 540/1290 Have ?'s

Used the Smarty 4.2 beta and Quad race and got best numbers. Smarty level 8 Quad level 2. I lost quite a bit of horsepower with quad on level 3 and going to level 1 was only a few less horsepower than 2. The Smarty 4.4 beta was about 7-10 horsepower less with about a tenth the amount of smoke. I could hardly drive home from the dyno shop with the race program loaded. Just a tap of the pedal and the truck was throwing me back in my seat which I really liked but on roads packed with snow and ice I will wait till summer.

My questions, They had a hard time finding 3rd gear in my truck and all dynoes were done in overdrive 75-130 mph. Would that mean that my real dyno numbers would be less TQ and more HP? or is it the other way around? Is there any way to do a conversion to give me a better idea of what my real hp numbers are. I am mentally set on getting to 600 hp and I want to have an idea how far off I really am and what I need to do next to get there. BTW Rail Pressure stayed above 23,000 for the entire dyno pull. Will a CP3 not be needed? Thanks, Tom J.

Merry Christmas................

A bigger turbo and a upgraded cp3 would get you there but a little tuning with what you have will bring you close.

Id be curius to see a re-dyno with doing nothing but putting your stock wheels and tires on. I would think that 35" meats would really hurt you on the rollers?? Not really read on that topic before, anyone proven or disproven this statement?? Great numbers by the way!

Does anyone have a clue what my numbers should have been if pull was done in 3rd gear? I am thinking Tq would go down and Hp would increase. Normally it seems like Tq and Hp have a 2 to 1 relationship. ie 500hp/1000tq 600hp/1200 tq

So it seems like I should see about 1080 Tq (not 1290) for a 540 Hp pull if it was done in 3rd gear. So I am pretty sure the 1290 Tq is not a correct measurement of my truck but I am hoping that a 3rd gear pull might show more horsepower than 540. Anyone have any idea how much more? 10-30 Hp maybe?

Thanks, Tom J.

Depending on what kind of dyno. Running locked in overdrive helps give your turbo time to spool.

Thanks Stock600, I hadn't really thought about the tires but they probably cost me 20 Hp. I don't have any stockers so I will just wait for Bob Wagner to release the 230hp tune for the Smarty and dyno again and try to get a good pull in 3rd. Thanks, Tom J.

My little Silver 62 spools so fast I don't think it would matter. I swear I can go from 0 to 44psi in less than 2 seconds. I wish I could scan and post my graph. At 1800rpm my truck was just short of 500hp, by 2000rpm I was at or above 500hp and pretty much a straight line till 2600rpm where I got a bump up to 540hp till 3000rpm where it started to come down to 520.

With everything maxed out and at the very end of the pull they were about 1500. Keep in mind that I was using a Mustang Dyno and had them load it as much as they could. I don't see that high of EGT on the street especially using the Smarty, It really manages Egt's well.

Does your tuner handle all your Boost Fooling, or do you run a seperate one like the quad? Even w/ my fueling i can run 1500* w/o the B.F but with it in place maybe 1250. Just curius,

I use the boostfooler built into the Quad race. The Smarty aftermarket turbo program will allow higher boost levels without setting a CEL. So one product fools the computer and the other programs the computer not to care. The beta software I have been using is just for aftermarket injectors and I need the Quad for boostfooling.

I let the shop operate my truck during the dyno because I wanted to watch my gauges. I didn't catch on to the fact that they were in OD while recording the dyno until all the pulls I had paid for were done. It wasn't till they tried to do the last pull with OD lock out that we relized the truck was in OD in all the previous pulls. The truck would only go to 90mph and stop and we realized that was the top of 3rd gear. In all previous pulls the truck had gone to 130 to record graph up to 3200 rpm. At that point I was just trying different settings on the Quad and loading different programs from the Smarty to see which combo was best. Now that I know which combo works the best I will just wait for Bob and Marco at Smarty to release the new 230hp tune and dyno again. I will be sure I am in 3rd gear next time. Thanks, Tom J.
