I recently purchased a Mobile Dream System from Sony. Out of stupidity I did not research before purchase and I'm having problems with mounting the monitor to the roof. The problem is the contour of the roof on a 3rd gen is not flat and the plastic skirt aroung the monitor does not have enough material around it to modify to sit flush with the head liner.

I've called sony to see if they sold a skirt with more material, notta.

I've talked with several installers and they all said I need to find a costum shop.

I've found a custom shop but am looking at $200-$400 bucks, not what I want to spend!!

Any suggestion or solutions would be appreciated..

The model # for the monitor is XVM-R 70

build your own "sub assembly" that goes from the curves of the headliner on one side and flat on the opposite side. cover it with headliner scrap material from a local upolstery shop. Now mount your monitor.

Thats what the custom guys do, they just have cool tools to do it with.

Yep, or eBay. I've seen a few headrest moniters on eBay that replaced the whole headrest. They even had factory matched colors, I see if I can find the ones I was looking at and post a link. Seemed to be around 249 bucks and looked like decent quality, but at 249 who knows...

I think I will probably build my own mount. What matierials do they usually use? I'm thinking a combo of fiberglass and wood..

I bought mine off of ebay for $329.00. That came with the dvd player and two headrest mounted screens. I wired the dvd with a cig lighter end and put it into the center console so that I can plug it into the accessory outlet in the console. The best part is that it is all mobile so I can take it into the house when not in use. That way nobody knows I have anything in there at all reducing the risk of it getting stolen. The screens are mounted to the headrest post so they come out as well and the picture is great on them. Best of all the kids are happy and quiet when it's on!
