A dumb ? about exhaust aero4040
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a 2004.5 ram diesel, edge juice attitude, Air filter coming(afe stage 2 or homemade 1) stock turbo. I might add a glacier 392 or airdog100 in near future as well. Now for exhaust since its stock would i be best to delete cat and muffler and stick a aero 4040 in place of the muffler? or stick the aero 4040 in place of the cat? Or does it even matter as long as the aero4040 is downstream from the turbo? Will the truck be too loud with cat and muffler gone and just a aero in their place?

ok. when i DELETE the cat and or muffler do i just put a 4 inch str8 piece in its place or do I need a kit? Could I just use flex pipe in their places? with step clamps? Or would I be better to get a 4 inch piece made that has enlarged ends so it will fit over the existing 4 inch piece for a nice fit and use step clamps as well? or does AERO have a kit for my truck?

I run the 4040 only and it sounds great. Not too loud IMO. you can definitely hear it when you get on it and it is pretty quiet running down the road. No drone either.

I took out my cat and muffler and put in a 4040XL and it sounded terrible. Incredibly loud even at idle, I would get complaints at campgrounds just trying to park my trailer. I put the cat back in and the combination is perfect. Aggressive tone at idle but not to loud and when I get on it the turbo and the 4040XL just sing. I have had people stop me in town because they like the sound of my truck.

I listen to a lot of Dodge Diesels and have found after two years of running the Aero that I still like it the best. When I eventually have to replace my exhaust the Aero will be going back in there

I did the 4040L after the cat and am very, very, pleased. FWIW. I love the sound of a LOUD diesel, if it's somebody elses. Mine doesn't drone or become annoying pulling on a long trip. For me, it's perfect.
