Dual Pod Steering Mount Gauge Pods

Like this....

Anyone here use something like this on their steering column? How much of your instrument cluster is blocked? How did you run the wires (exposed or drilled into the steering column)??

Here's a pic of my steering mount with AutoMeter Phantom gauges. I personally love the setup. It's easy to watch your speed and rpms while watching the gauges. The only thing that is obstructed is the odometer but who watches the odometer when they drive.

In did drill two small holes in the top of the steering column to run the wires through however, the holes are covered by the pod mount.

I drilled two BIG holes in the original column cover. Glued the pod and original cover together, put the gauges in it, and installed the whole thing as one piece.

Everyone that sees it thinks it came from the factory that way.

Be sure to leave some slack in the wires. You may have to pull a gauge out to replace a bulb someday.

Oh by the way.
In the picture you see above, the camera was much lower than your eyes will be while driving. Nothing is blocked except the odometer, and it is easy to look around the gauge when you need to see the odometer.

Mr. Blonde, is that an Autometer gauge pod too or is just the gauges that are Autometer?

Ray, I don't see a picture in your thread but I'd love to see your setup and hear some more details on how you did it. I'm not quite following you on the BIG holes and glueing everything together.

Not available to those w/o a "cubby hole" but I like the one I made for my ride. It was a PIA to make but Can't imagine a better answer. Input is more than welcome. Photos in my gallery

Thanks Mr. Blonde. That's what I was hoping you'd say. I like that setup. Thanks for posting that picture. I think I'm gonna go the same route only with DiPricol gauges instead.

Depending on what gauges you plan to install, bigger holes may simplify the installation. Boost gauge and mech. fuel pressure both have plumming to them.
The holes will be covered by the pod anyhow.

As far as glueing them together, I did not want something setting on there loose that could be moved around or knocked off.
Glued together it is nice and solid. no movement. Looks factory.

As far as pictures go, it looks just like the daytime picture already posted except I used Di-Pricol gauges because they are a closer match to original gauges at night.
One of these days I'm going to have to learn how to post pictures.
