And having just installed the Recon yesterday the enclosed directions are correct and they work well. Got mine finished and happy with the results. Just hold onto the manifold fitting and do not drop it as I still havent found mine, it went somewher but after 1 hour of looking didn't find it. Oh be sure and shut the truck back off after drilling like before trying to install the fitting. It gets really hot and the exaust gas is quite strong coming out of your drilled hole. I also after drilling and tapping the hole took a small magnet and after shutting off the truck fished around inside the hole and did remove some very fine drill shavings.

As long as they are small enough, you'll be fine. I used a shop vac held by the girlfriend next to the bit and tap.

SEPERATE THE TURBO FROM THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes I did one without seperating but on my '07 a piece of drill bit broke off upon breaking thru the manifold and down into the turbo it went = new turbo expense. It only takes a few minutes to seperate it enough to fit something inbetween and I reccommend to do it, wish I would have.

I used a lot and I mean a lot of grease on the drill frequently re greasing it and after finishing the Drilling & Tapping (with tap also heavily greased) then shut off the truck and took a magnet into the manifold hole I jsut drilled and fished out all the fine dust and particles that slipped thru the grease & magnets. Got some out but it was all very fine dust type of remains. And I was very carefull of the quality and how I was drilling it out. Took my time and went very slowly.

I have done a few egt probes on the duramax engine (1 truck about 2 years ago, another 3 years ago) for juice modules. Just drilled it while it was running, everything still ok on both trucks.
