Drag racers: a TC question

For those of you who hit the short, straight track: do you see better times when you use TC lockup during your run, or when you stay in fluid until 4th?

Have you compared your time using lockup to any trial runs you've done in fluid?

You will see better times always w/ a lock up s/w activated late in 2nd, but some "honest" builders say do not do it, built auto or not! Lock up s/ws are very hard on all moving parts involved. I would use the advise of a bad **** Suncoast tech, and say if you are strictly a drag racer, get the S/W done for fastest times, if not, don't do it. I went through this same dilemma.

Are you saying most drag racers lock up late in second, then shift while locked through the remaining gears? Or do they lock late in 2nd, unlock for the 2-3, lock in 3, unlock for the 3-4, then lock?

I'm not interested in doing this myself - I like driving in fluid with my aftermarket convertor. I was just interested in what the guys on the strip do.

i flip the switch on the line and as soon as it hits 2nd it locks, and i leave it that way. normal 48re VB's lock in first so keep that in mind when you do it...locked 1st-2nd shifts often result in broken/twisted parts.

I lock mine at the line , when the truck hits second gear it locks all by itself, I picked up 3 tenths.

I hit the lock up switch as soon as it shifts to 2nd and it stays locked from there.

Normal 48re VBs DO NOT lock the TC in 1st, they lock in 3rd and or in 4th.

I think he meant theat when the TC switch is flipped at the line a stock VB will lock up in first. When you use a race type VB it will shift to 2nd before the TC switch engages the lockup.

When the VB locks with a switch is dependant on how your builder assembled it and what gear the "gear selector" is in.

Half way through 1st here...... Sometime when it hits second. Locking it up in first is crazy though.
