I put a Donaldson 40'' on my truck a few weeks ago, #m085171. Put a 4'' piece of pipe in where the kitty was and bolted the new muffler in the stock location, finished off with a 5'' black chrome tip. Its sound pretty good to me. No drone anywhere and nice and quiet on the highway. Outside you can definetly hear me coming. Theres a nice whistle and idle. Sounds real good echoing of cars and curbs, has a big truck tone to it. I find myself driving around with my right side windows down to here itI think overall it sounds great, exaclty what i wanted. Cheap too as i got the muffler for 60$ CAN taxes in.

Has anyone tried that really short one? I think its 24"??

Yeah they have a 26.5" one, but it only flows 1667 vs the 40" flowing 3119. Of note the 40" 4" , M085171, flows the best of all the 4" mufflers.

How will the Donaldson MO 85171 fit on to a stock truck, is it a direct replacement to the oem muffler? Does the Cat have to come off too?

It is not a direct replacement. It is a straight design and the OEM is offset in/out. What I did was add a muffler delete pipe and started the muffler where the kitty used to start. Its smaller around than the kitty and works great.

No, it's not a direct fit, but it is close. I had a shop weld it on for me. They canted the tail pipe slightly up and toward the driver-side and welded it. I had to put a SS exhaust tip on to get the pipe back out where it belongs. It's a great muffler tho, sounds great and free flowing. As far as the cat, I don't know, my truck never had one...

Anyone try a M090781 instead?

It's 5 outlet. Flows pretty good.. but is 15-120 db versus the 8-12 of the 171 everyone is talking about. I want to only hear a deep exhaust note under heavy footed driving in the cab.
