Do people put chips in manual CTD's?

New to diesel trucks.....I have always heard of people puting chips into diesels with auto's to get better power/torque/mpg, but never heard if it is doable with a manual tranny?

Can anyone school me on this issue? I am fixing to buy a CTD soon, and am going to go with a manual to try to avoid the auto tranny issues that has plagued my last 2 cars!

It is indeed doable with the manual transmissions. I'd be willing to bet if you took an informal poll you'll find more BOMB'ed manual CTD's than auto CTD's. Clutches are easier and a little less expensive than upgrading an automatic transmission. If you get the right aftermarket transmission upgrades for the automatic, they're hard to beat but it can be expensive.

Brules:

You can bomb a CTD with a manual tranny with a "chip," but you do have to have a CTD that is computer controlled. In other words, the truck must be a 98.5 or newer in order to use a "box." Prior to that year, people have to use mechanical upgrades rather than computer boxes because the engine is mechanically controlled, not by computer.

Mines a manual and I have an EZ. I understand the manuals hold up much better than an auto. Mines held up great so far.
