Differences in rear axles?
I'm looking to buy a new pumkin and found this site
http://www.dieselperformanceparts.co...bc&f_match=200
Per my glovebox I've got an 11.5" rear axle with a 3.73 gear ratio. The application note for 2003+ says to check using VIN to make sure I've got an 11.5" ring gear...
If the glove box says I've got 11.5" rear... does it mean the ring gear? I hate ordering parts that don't fit.

I went with the black powder coat so it wouldn't stick out like a turd in a punch bowl under the truck. If you keep your axle painted it looks very clean from the rear. To each his own...

OK... so there were differences in how DC equipped SO and HO for a while? That would explain the cryptic application notes. But with my HO pre 04.5 2004 I'm thinking I've got the only flavor of 11.5" rear there is and the new cover should fit me.

Call the manufacture. PML Incorporated. There have been a couple of p/n updates in the last few weeks. They will make sure you get the correct parts.

...yes, I tried to call the number but I'm thinking they took a long weekend.
I'll call on Monday before I order. I've learned to gather info before I call. If the person know what they are talking about, I can ask better questions if I've done my homework. If they don't know what they are talking about, I can figure that out by knowing a little about the question myself.
This one should be a no brainer.

A little off topic but worth note. I went back and checked my info. The change in p/n is for the front axle. Our front axle is the unit used for the rear axle on the new Hummers. GM apparently relocated 1 stinking bolt hole for the cover on the Hummer rear causing PML to have to change the alignment for the Hummers by less than 1/2" on that hole. If you go for a front cover also, check the holes for alignment before you proceed with the install to make sure you don't get a Hummer cover from a vendors old stock.
Just a little info for future 4x4 users...
