CTD Vs. Hemi?

He will beat you.
I used to have a short bed hemi. I raced an 05 QC long bed 4wd and smoked him.
Now when I got the truck I have now. I raced the same truck with a hemi and just kept pulling him.

Race him from a roll and you will take him stock.
Race him from a start and without a tuner you have too much turbo lag and not enough fueling down low to match the quick revving Hemi.
My last truck was RC SB 04 Hemi. very quick off the line but not so good from hi mid to high rpm. (lot's of noise no go I think is was the Torque management)
That is with a CAI,Superchips, lost Kitty and aeroturbine.

Timmer, you might beat a short wheel base hemi in the 1/8 mile. No way you can touch him in the 1/4 mile with a hand shaker. I bet that I'd have a hard time beating a newer hemi in the 1/4, rowing a diesel like a sports car is an abusive "art" that few have the patience and dollars to master.
Tim could shift that G56 without lifting, and the clutch will hold 2500RPM launches in 3rd on his stock tires.

??? CTDs own the the big end of the track - when you grab the next gear, the truck just pulls harder... I've seen many a fast gasser put on the trailer by a turbodiesel around the 1000' mark.

I'd characterize the parasitic drivetrain losses of 4WD as insignificant; anyway, I'm comparing Hemi vs. CTD, which is the OP's question.
Auto or stick, the CTD Rams are substantially quicker on the big end of the track than the Hemi - it's simply a case of having more grunt (whether there's a heavy trailer in tow or your brick is trying to shove through that ever-increasing wall of air).
Half the fun at the track is reeling them back in while the run winds out - the other half is leaving them at 60' with a 4WD boost-launch wondering what just happened...

The races I win, I'm usually out in front from the launch to the end.
A lot of the races I lose, I take them off the line and I'm out in front to the 60' or 1/8 mile...then they take me on the big end.
4wd boosted launches produce slower 1/4 mile trap speeds with faster 1/4 mile ET's (when compared to regular 2wd vehicles). For example, most 4wd CTD's run a 12.7 at around 105mph - 108mph, while most 2wd vehicles run a 12.7 at around 115mph - 118mph. In a race like that the 4x4 CTD will take the car on the launch and still be ahead at the 1/8 mile, but then the car will start gaining on the big end. That right there tells you a 4wd boosted launch is faster on the start and slower on the big end.
