BTW...Delo 400 almost has the highest flash point of any applicable oil for our Cummins...synthetic or not...

I switched back from Amsoil to good ole Delo 400.

I may run a load of Amsoil; again just in the coldest months...since its pour point is quite a bit lower...

Interesting, I will think about that once I run the amsoil through one more time, than agian winter will be here again before I need to change my oil agian so I may hold off on the delo. Plus we get the delo in 55 gal drums so I think it is still the CI-4.

CQ, are you runnin a bypass?
And, do you know what oil has the highest flashpoint?

When sending in a sample it is a good idea to send in another one around 5k after the original sample no matter what the results are to compare. We had a Mack E7-427 (not ours but one of our drivers) he sent a sample (10K on oil) to out local CAT dealer and it came back with with HUGE iron and copper? (I think) numbers. The local mack shop said that his rod bearings were shot which is common but not for only 125K on engine. The service guy also stated to run the truck for 5K and send out another sample and see what the results were for comparison. He did just that and the results were normal. Ran the same oil another 5K (10K total) and sent in another sample and those results were normal as well. He has since driven the truck for a year since the last round of testing (30K) and is going to send in another sample again to see what happens.

I have been thinking about sending in a sample myself but do not want to worry about nothing if I get a strange result. I think when I hit 30K I will send a sample just for grins. I change the oil every 5K and run Valvoline syn 5-40 in winter and 15-40 in summer.

I've been seeing higher-than-normal Iron levels for some time now. Not high enough to warrant any action,
but definitely not in the normal range. Here's a copy of my latest report along with all the previous results...

That big turbo not spooling up adequately for the fuel to the engine when not running hard doesn't help either. Definitely go with a bypass filter as that will help with the soot. Change your filter more often even though you do not change the oil as there is a good possibly that the main filter due to the high soot is plugging up and bypassing the filter element. Hope things settle down to more reasonable numbers.

The tst and mp8 are off 99% of the time.
