cooper st-V- cooper ATR-V-BFG
Hi i am like the last guy on here that postedon here. about ready to pull his hair out because he could not decide whcih tires to get for his truck. Ok i have decided on eather the Cooper or the BFG in eather a 285-70-17 or a 315/70/17. I am changing my wheels to the factory chromed aluminum ones. Ok on the coopers i have decided on eather the ST or the ATR. which ones would you pick. I will not be offroading my truck or truck pulling etc.I am just looking for a good tire. one that has goood traction in snow or mud.allso do not want something that will wear out in 20,000 miles. All io do wiht this truck is drive it back and forth to work and tow my race car once in awhile.
BFG At TKO in eather a 285/70/17 or 315/70/15. I found out last night while looking for tires. That BFG has came out with a 305/65/17 load range E tire. Is anybody running that size tire. Allso for being a load range E tire. It still only has the weight limit of the BFG in a D range. OK can anybody Help ( me being a big Dummy) me figure this crap out . thanks very much guys. Mopar72

tires
I had the bfg ko tires on m 05, they were terrible , when it got over 90 degrees they would get out of balance, I would rebalance them myself since dobbs tire refused to keep rebalancing them , they said there was nothing wrong with them, of cource the truck sat on their lot and the tires were cooled off.and they never drove it on the hwy. contacted BFG they said it was up to me to prove there was a problem, they only had 10.000 miles on them and had a problem since they were put on. Dobbs finally put cooper atr's on the truck and I couldn't have been happier, they balance out good, and ride nice and quiet. I have about 40.000 on them now and they still have over 50% of tread left on them. I keep them rotated and balanced every 7000 miles when I change the oil, and fuel filter. don't look at the ply rating as much as the load rating, with that tire being more of a flotation tire it will handle close to the same weight as an e rated tire.

I have Cooper 285 ATR's, been on about 25,000 km so far so good.
Don't think they'll last 80,000 miles or anything but seem to be holding up fairly well, maybe 50k miles?

i am on my third set ta/ko's. best tire i have ever had!! they are rated for 50,000 miles. my last set that i just replaced last week, i got 56,000 miles out of them!! never a problem with balancing, etc, but i also rotate my tires every 6,000 miles. plus the bfg's are also severe weather rated. my wife is on her second set on her truck-again-no problems! they are the only tire i will run!

I ran the Coopers AT tires before and liked them, they went well over 50,000 miles.
I just put on a set of Silent Armor's and they are really the best tire I have used, last weekend I went hunting, drove highway miles, through heavy rain, snow, muddy dirt roads and sugar sand roads and pastures, they worked fine.
My next choice would have been the TA/KO's.
I use 245x75x16 load range E.

Cooper tires are great... and at that price they are cheap!!! Where did you get them.... I have the s/t and they are an aggressive offroad tire that is pretty quiet on road...they balanced up using an on the truck dynamic balancer with betwee 0 and 2 oz... and only one tire of 6 had 2 oz....2 had none....smooth as silk and in 2wd I can still get places....I've plowed through solid snow 2 feet thick with 4 to 5 foot drifts.

Related to this, the 305/65/17 BFG All Terrain. If I install these on my factory rim, will I get much "Mushroom Head" look to the tire? Anyone have these installed on their ride? The Kal Tire guy I was talking too said that they would look funny on my factory 8" wide rim, and I would need at least a 9.5 to 10" wide for them to look OK.

They will look fine, but they will wear a little more in the center faster if you keep the pressure up. They are 12 inches wide overall and maybe 10.5 or 11 on the contact patch. Alot of people on here have 12.5's on. ks

I have 315-70 Cooper ATR's and I love them so far. Great in the rain and muck. Haven't tried them in the snow yet. I got the set for $450 used with 8000 miles on them. Even though they're only D-rated, the weight rating is the same as the stock E's. I didn't know if I'd like 315's for towing so I thought these cheapies would be a good way to find out. Turns out they're fine for what I do. I'd put 315 ATR's on again. You'll be happy with your 285's, I'd about guarantee it.
