ok, here's my "amateur" question...partially 'cuz I got a knucklehead friend with a Dura-trash, and he always has different opinion, I want to get better MPG,and if I get some power as a by-product, that's nice , but main concern is MPG. I'm using an AirRaid intake on a stock '06 , the only other "extra" is Amsoil use.I'd like to eliminate the cat. conv. ,but haven't yet been compelled to do it ,'cuz the stock exhaust seems to work fine, and it's not obnoxious loud... qiuet is better these days, in my opinion. My HD FLHX is quiet too. It seems to run fine also...

Most of you see a drop in temps, in my case I see pretty hot temps. I can get up to 1700 pretty easy on the street. I also live at 7000' but I have seen those temps at 2500' also. Even with those temps I would not get rid of the smarty.

I think that turbo has a lot to do with it?
These trucks run hot stock. A 600 truck will easily run in the 1300's bone stock off a dealer lot. Making power is going to make the egt's rise at some point.
With my smarty on level 5 or 7 I can't hit 1300 degrees no matter how hard I try. Maybe a different story if I were pulling a heavy load up a steep grade but have not done that yet.

I still hit 1600 with smarty TNT on seven but it is definatley better for towing on the lower #'s egt wise compared to the tripledog I had. I would look at the turbo first. If I had to start over I would get a 64-71-13ss. Three turbos later and its still to small!!!

03RAM2500- I would get a new pyro and try again. I could hit 1300 on sw 1 with my turbo. I know i have sticks but i ran stockers for a while with a 62-65-12 and could always bury every pyro i have ever tried. Bone stock it would read 1400. I had an Outlook that was lying to me and it cost me a turbo after a few months of towing. the htt housing was cracked and out of shape. They said they couldn't believe my truck was still running. I live at about 1,000 ft to 1,800 if this helps.

I still say smarty or PPE. I have tried many. The Bully Dog gets hot fast on extreme, the TST skyrockets, and has no bottom end power, The qzilla X2 standard gets hot, and the X2 Race gets extremely hot. Pressure = heat. The stock turbos on these trucks are just about at their cooling limit from the factory.
