compound turbo setup

Hi guys

I am looking at getting a compound turbo setup. The truck will be used for towing heavy I want to keep my egts under control, and have all the power I need any given rpm at instantly(or pretty close to it)

I want setup that will provide very fast spoolup at any rpm and still be able to provide enough air for 700hp.

which setup/turbo sizes would you recomend?

thanks,
Andrew

A 62mm s300 over a 74mm s400 should do the trick...

As far as engine...not much of a difference from 2004.5 to 2005 just an FYI.

For the both 62mm and 74mm turbos what size turbine wheel and exhaust housing options are there?

which ones would be best for what I am looking for?

BD builds great towing twins setup. The R-700 will support 700hp.

700hp and well over 1000ftlbs of torque is a bunch of power. If you want to tow heavy you will need to use care and careful throttle modulation. Or prepare to eventually pick up the broken driveline pieces.

550hp is plenty of power for serious towing (ask the guy driving the N-14 big rig beside you). 550 hp gives you the added advantage of using smaller (more responsive) turbos. Not to mention better fuel economy.

I would go with a 62/14 over a 74/22...I am not sure on the turbine wheel...I think the 62 is a 65 but I am not sure.

If this is an auto you probably won't be able to keep a tranny in it towing heavy at 700hp (at least if you're going to use the HP).

500-550hp is more than enough to out-tow anything else on the road. If you keep it at 650 or less you can get away with the stocker/S400 setup and that will give you the quickest spool-up.

If you try to tow heavy over 450hp for very long the coolant system will not keep up and the motor will overheat. If you have addressed that problem then I wasted my time but do not expect to tow at much more than 450hp for very long on the stock coolant system.

Do you have a round about number where you are going to want to be? If you are 550hp or under our Super B Towing twins are engineered to have the best throttle response and still move enough air to keep 550hp cool. If you are planning on going past that then our R700 twins are still going to have excellent throttle response and have enough air for 700hp. Both of these are complete setups with the manifolds and all the fittings needed to make it work.

I'd like to point that heat load on the cooling system is largely a function of fuel consumption, so if you're towing heavy with a 700HP-capable truck but only using 350HP there shouldn't be an issue with overheating.

Yeah, but when you try to use more power the temps will go higher. What's the sense in having 700hp to tow with if you're never going to use it?

When I am towing I want to be in the 400-500hp range but I am going to be racing the truck a few times a month and I want 700hp for that

Pat with the R7100 how much throttle response am I sacraficing vs the Super B towing twins?

in general what kind of boost #s can I expect at ______ rpm?

thanks,
Andrew

The boost question at a certain rpm is very difficult to answer. There are so many things that effect boost. On our 2006 I have pulled about 9k with it and was about 500hp to the ground at the time. The throttle response was excellent. Not much difference from the towing twins. maybe another second to spool up, but they really did tow nice. Egts were non-existent.
