cheese holes in front protector

My intake box has a square cut out in the front of the box, so I drilled holes in the front protective plastic to allow more cool air threw to the intake box
before

after

Every little bit helps, is that piece even needed?

surprised you didn't just remove it, I did and tested air temps inside my bhaf with a remote sensor for a weather center.......... with air dam in place vs without was about a 7 degree drop on the exact same stretch of road, about 5 minutes apart.

nah, the grill on the hood does that, just spray it with some flat black paint so it still looks clean behind the grill.

The earlier 3rd gens didn't even have the cover, like mine.
Ok to remove.

I just removed mine when I installed the twins, my heat sheild blocks to the radiator so that section on grill provides cold air. I was worried about rain getting on the filter so I just installed a pre-filter.
